So where's the protagonist?

So basic story structure normally requires either a protagonist (hero or anti-hero) that the reader/viewer can identify with and root for.

We have a pretty good idea of who the antagonists are (1) blonde uncle guy married to Ryneera, (2) Blonde eye-patch guy that cause kid to be eaten by dragon, (3) Blonde bratty King guy, (4) Weird toe sucking weasel guy, (5) kings guard guy that sleeping with queen, (6) Old man Hightower.

Then we have some fence sitters that no one can identify with (1) Ryneera, (2) Hightower queen, (3) Older bleach blonde woman (Ryaenys or something) that lives with Ryneera (4) Ryaenys husband guy with gray dreadlocks.

So who is it that the viewer should be rooting for here? Maybe the idea is that the writers want the viewer to hope that both sides completely destroy each other simultaneously, sort of like the fight between those two knights in episode 2. Maybe the writers will introduce Eddard Stark's great x 12 grandfather as the competing king of the north, that happens to be dead ringer for Eddard, so we can finally see what would happen to that character if he hadn't been donked off in GOT. But his time he's just the general contractor for the renovation of the Ice Wall.

False premise. It's an ensemble cast.

Yes, so you can have multiple protagonists. Yet I don't see one anywhere.

Rhaenyra, Alicent, Daemon I would say are the main three. Now closely followed by Aemond, Aegon, Otto.

I don't root for anyone. None of them are bad and none of them are good.

Rich people's problems.

And I don't actually blame Hightower people for taking throne. In that time males were valued more for kings throne. Even Viserys was crowned despite being younger then his female cousin. Viserys was the firstborn son of King Jaehaerys' second son and his sister-wife.

Rhaenys (old blond woman who hangs around) is the only child of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen's late heir apparent and oldest son. Known as the "Queen Who Never Was", she was once a candidate to succeed her grandfather as ruler of the Seven Kingdoms but was passed over in favor of her younger cousin Viserys due to her gender.

In other words she was child of first son of late king. And Viserys was son of second son. So she was higher in line. But they chose man to be king. Because women were proclaimed Queens only if there were no males in near line.

It's the same with Rhaenyra. For a long time she was kings only child and everyone assumed she would be queen when he will die. But then he married and brought 2 boys. So of course boys would be chosen instead of woman.

Rhaenyra has a lost cause. Not to mention her two sons have black hair. Meaning that glorious Targaryen blond looks would be no more when her son would take throne. While her brother Aegon had two perfect blonde children. People and nobles would always prefer Aegon as king then Rhaenyra.
