Looks good, visually

I was wondering what this movie would look like. Would they use bullet time, slow mow, and other visual staples from the old movies. This does NOT look like the others - it doesn't have that hue or whatever effect they made the Matrix itself - and I think it's a good thing. This looks more real. Obviously crisper and more vivid than real life, but more realistic than the previous movies. I'm starting to get pretty excited.

Pretty sure it will LOOK neat. based on the maker's previous works, I'm pretty sure it will be a bloated crapshoot of "ooh cool" but pointless ideas. i hope they do a good story in the end though.

reply

Looks like pretty solid to production to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPhUUFXMILU. This looks well-made.

reply

yeah. it will the support budget, but will it have a great story, or just shiny/pretty?

reply

from the brief glimpses it feels somewhat visually reminiscent of Nolan/Inceptiony vibes.. (no doubt the lone Wachowski will have been influenced by Nolan in the interim as Nolan was no doubt influenced by the original Matrix)

Inception was for all intents and purposes like a Nolan version of The Matrix and had themes and concepts that many thought the matrix sequels would explore..

its strange to think the last time Matrix was in cinemas the concept of 'a Nolan film' and his style and impact on cinema and BRRAAHH!! in trailers etc did not yet fully exist..

reply

I see Nolan and shades of John Wick too. It's kind of neat because there's still bullet time and other typical Matrix powers/abilities, but the different colors and hue (and more modern) make it look new, but the same. I am digging it for sure.

reply

It does look like one would expect a modern Matrix film to look. (BTW I think the greenish hue of the original films matrix scenes was added for the dvd or blurays, I'm pretty certain it wasnt in the original movie when in the cinema anyway, maybe it was in R&R and then they added it to Matrix99 on dvd?)

Reeves looking EXACTLY like John Wick is abit disconcerting (obviously as he was filming Wick4 around the same time and I guess Wachowski was fine with Neo looking like Wick, probably wanted him to look abit Obi Wan-ish this time anyway.. And its the look Reeves is known for now anyway)

reply

How did you expect a modern Matrix movie to look? I was not sure what they were gonna do. I am a fan, but I kept thinking something would look off if they duplicated it. Dated.

I don't know. I never saw the original in the theater. I think the green was always there for the other 2. I don't think it is in my DVD of the original now that I think about it.

Reeves has long hair and a beard, therefor John Wick? I don't subscribe to that logic. I don't really get it either. Arnold looks like the same person in all his 90s movies. Leaner but still buff, same haircut. Actors tend to look the same as...well, themselves.

Most recent films all look great but fail in everything else.

reply

"Most recent films all look"

The DCEU would disagree with you.

reply

It doesn't. It looks generic as fuck. Where's the green tint? Did they replace the original cinematographer?

reply

It not being green is a GREAT decision.

reply

Looks like every other modern action movie, what so great about that?

reply

Marvel, DC, and F&F movies make up about 75% of action movies anymore and it doesn't look anything like that to me. I think you need glasses.

reply

I think you need to be more cultured.

reply

I think you need to be slapped, you uptight prick. Get a new shtick besides insulting people.

reply

I'm not insulting anyone. I'm just telling it like it is.

reply

You kinda started it here.

reply

The green tint wasn't there in 1999. It wasn't until Reloaded/Revolutions came out on DVD that they put the green on the original film – purely to be more in line with the look of the sequels.

It has since been corrected on the 2018 4K release which is closer to how it originally looked.

Here's some comparisons between an original 35mm print and the overly-green home video releases.

i cant remember if the green tint was on R&R in the cinemas? i think it probably was

reply

I do remember the blue tint in the original.

reply

yeh ive found an article on it
https://screenrant.com/matrix-4-resurrections-look-different-not-green-reason/

Despite the familiarity of The Matrix's signature green tint, there could be another reason altogether why it was abandoned for Resurrections. In both The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, scenes within the Matrix were given a green hue to signify the entrance into a virtual world. This was a creative decision taken by the Wachowskis to reinforce the alien nature of the simulation, with the original 1999 Matrix being remastered post-release to bring it in line visually with the trilogy aesthetic. Therefore, The Matrix Resurrections trailer's brighter, cleaner color palette could also result from Lana Wachowski returning to her roots and presenting The Matrix Resurrections the same way the original 1999 Matrix theatrical release was presented.

reply

The trailer makes it look like a remake of the first movie.

"Looks good, visually"

No, it doesn't.

And how else can something 'look good' - aurally?
