How old is TOO old? Olsen is 31 years old!!!

Eric Christian Olsen was 30, pushing 31, years old at the time of filming. Feels to me like some of these guys would be a little more comfortable in "To Catch a Predator" than in the classroom. How old is too old to play High School students? Anybody got some other great examples of actors WAY TOO old for the roles they are playing.

reply

31 is not to old to play a high school student. Hello, the brother on Hannah Montana is like 33 and Stockard Channing from Grease was like 35 or something when she played Rizzo.

Tom Welling is 32 playing a young Superman. He would have been in his late 20's when playing a high schooler.

Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia? At least a decade older than Donna can possibly be.

Currently: Helen Mirren in Phedre at the National Theatre in London...far too old to have a tendre for Dominic Cooper - who himself was still playing a schoolboy in the History Boys when nudging 30.

Monique Coleman who plays Taylor McKessie in High School Musical was 26 for the 1st one, 27 for the second and 28 for the 3rd

reply

I wouldn't say that "too old" is possible.

I'm also not interested in realism in films.

Absolutely pathetic. Infantilism rules in america.

What we should do is try and find examples of teenagers played by teenagers. That would be the real challenge!

wether he was too old or not, he was just downright creepy in this gawdawful, completely unfunny film. the fact that he was probably twice the age of the girls he was picking up makes me feel uneasy, somehow.

Eh, who cares. Olsen was hilarious. I wasn't watching this movie for the realism of being in high school anyway.

reply

Oh god people, these "to catch a predator" and "creepy" comments are ridiculous. It's not like it's real life! It's called acting, he wasn't exactly taking these girls home/dating/doing anything else with them.

The worst of all casting someone to old had to be Stockard Channing as a high school student in Grease. She was 34 years old and looked every bit of it. What the *beep* is up with casting directors hiring someone that old. Oliva-newton john wasn't exactly young either she was about 29 but at least she was youthful looking. Stockard looked old. LOL

QFT.

besides, its an old acting tradition, for good or worse, thats been going on for 50 years. should they start casting actual teens for teen roles we would all think they look too young and be 'taken out of' whatever movie or tv show we were watching. the quality of most tv and movies these days is weak enough to not be able to take a blow like that.

I didn't care to be honest with you. The movie was funny and hat was all that mattered.

I even agree with you they are way too old to be playing HS students. I just didn't care. It's a stupid comedy. It might bother me more if was attempting to be taken seriously.
