The Teaser Trailer Was Mediocre

And The THING looks entirely too small in height for someone who takes on the HULK in the comics and gets his ass handed to him 98% of the time. Chris Evans is impossible to replace as the HUMAN TORCH right down to the playful banter he along with The THING had. I also definitely don't agree with the Casting of Pedro Pascal and know why Disney Cast him over John Krasinski, but whatever.. The Invisible Woman is the Invisible Woman and no better looking then the actress who played her in the 2005 & 2007 sequel

I found it as mediocre as the Superman trailer. Neither trailer hyped me up to see the movies. I'll see them either way but i'm not hyped to get to the theater like i was with Deadpool and Wolverine. They should have stuck with Krasinski as Reed. He's a good actor and looked the part. Much more so than Pascal. I wasn't impressed with any of the casting.

reply

I think you and I might be the only 2 who thought Krasinski looked better and The THING'S Voice needed to be MUCH lower more gravely sounding for his appearance

It's rare that a trailer leaves me in eager anticipation for a film, but the recent Fantastic Four and Superman trailers both have me counting the days until opening night. The Deadpool and Wolverine film, on the other hand, wasn't something I was all that eager to see. I enjoyed it when I watched it, but the trailer did nothing for me.

reply

I'm really hyped for Superman. Mostly cause I'm a fan of the character.

Also, As much as I like Henry Cavill, I'm really tired of dark, brooding, Superman Jesus.

reply

Cavill looked the part but the films were terrible. Same with Gal Gadot. Those two were born to be Superman and Wonder Woman, and it's a shame the movies were so poorly made.

reply

Mediocre is the perfect word. If I could toss another word... it looked flat. I get it's a teaser but I can't help but think they should be way further along at this point than what I saw on the screen. I get they still have work to do on effects but there were NO shots of Reed stretching. I dig Pedro, but I wasn't sold on him playing the smartest man in the world and this didn't help.

I'm going to see it because I have collected the comics and am curious about what they are going to do. Crossing fingers and toes collectively at this point.

This comes out in July for something that still needs work on the FX. I think they rushed this out, but we'll see. Interesting how the THING'S Getup is an actual costume and showed them pulling the latex over the actors head that had rocks built into it, so it's very little CGI on the THING

reply

I agree completely... The trailer is going to be shown at the Super Bowl so they had to put something out for that. Still a lot of work to be done.

reply

I remember back in 2003 when they showed the trailer for The HULK and it was panned HARD after that because the FX just weren't quite there yet like in modern day and he came off looking rubbery and bouncy in the desert scene and it just didn't work and the only reason some fans say Ang Lee's version was better is because of the artistic value of the movie the way it was sold at the time being a "Greek Tragedy". It sucked. Plain and simple

reply

The whole thing looked like "fuzzy pastel". It was weird looking.

reply

They were going for a 1950s-60s vibe, which approach can work. And you're wrong about the Thing - he's not all that tall.

I thought they were going for the ULTIMATES Version of The THING which is what the 2016 movie looked like?? This version of THING in this trailer would get demolished by the HULK

reply

I would like to add my concurrence to this.

Nothing really stands out, except for the Fallout style retro fit.

I was wondering if this is an alternate universe and thus effectively standalone? If so, it might give it some mileage.

If not, we've already had the massive threat to humanity done to death already by Marvel. They should, literally, be bringing it back down to earth.

reply

This takes place in the 60's and is designed to usher in the 1st Official F4 movie from MARVEL and not FOX like they were in the past I suppose and they went with the earliest version of the F4

I think it looks amazing. It's pretty much exactly what I want as a fan of the Fantastic Four, right down to the '60s-inspired aesthetic. I didn't care for the previous films, and thought Evans wasn't a good fit as Johnny Storm. Alba, too, was miscast. Ioan Gruffudd, on the other hand, was a perfect Reed, though Pascal seems nearly as good, and much better than Krasinski ever could be. I think they more or less nailed it with all four actors this time around.

The chemistry between Pascal and Kirby is non-existent and Chris Evans MADE The Human Torch and so much, they made sure to throw everyone off in Deadpool & Wolverine for him to come back as Johnny Storm. It's virtually a no name cast with a Silver Surfer who's female and wears a silver costume. You've got to be kidding me??

reply

One can only glean so much from a film's initial teaser trailer. I have no idea what sort chemistry the actors will ultimately have. All I can say at this point is that the trailer has me extremely excited for the film. I disliked the 2005 and 2007 films, and felt they were very generic Hollywood superhero films, and lacked any connection to the comics. Gruffudd looked the part of Mr. Fantastic, but beyond that there was nothing that reflected the personality or vibe of the comics. It was utterly generic, and felt like a movie by committee that threw out everything that made the Fantastic Four unique in favor of tropes the guys in suits thought would play well in multiplexes.

Will this be any better? Who knows? At least it looks and feels like the comics I read as a kid.

And The THING'S Voice is too high and needs to be lower, more gravely sounding to fit his appearance. Maybe they have time to fix this by the time they show the trailer at the Super Bowl because there's nothing worse than an audience of 75 Million watching this panning it like they did with the HULK in 2003. Universal to this day regrets showing that trailer at the Super Bowl because it was panned HARD after citing it looked too rubbery in the FX, too bouncy, the law of physics were completely off and he looked like Shrek on Steroids were one of the comments. 1st impressions are everything folks. Remember that

Or perhaps having a recognizable, human voice will go a long way towards humanizing the Thing, and making him less of a brutish monster, as he has been in past films, and more of a tragic figure, as he is in the comics.

reply

No!! Just NO!! Either do it right or don't do it at all and you're the only one I see who has 0 problem with the THING having a voice that sounds normal under the circumstances he got himself in

reply

As much Chris Evans as Captain America gets praised, and I'm an MCU Cap fanboy, Dude was PERFECT casting as The Human Torch. I honestly don't think he gets enough credit for that.

I'm a fan of Pedro Pascal but ya, I think he was really miscast. Didn't hate Krasinski as Reed but I was also not sold on him as well.

My personal fancast was always Brandon Routh. Oh well, it is what it is.

I'm loving the aesthetics though. I'm willing to give this shot more than new Captain America or Thunderbolts. Nothing about those 2 are doing anything for me.
