John Wick 5

John Wick: Chapter 5 was announced to be in development in August 2020. Originally, the plan was for Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 to be shot back-to-back. However, Lionsgate ultimately opted to put Chapter 5 on the back burner and shoot Chapter 4 on its own.

reply

I bet they leave the ending ambiguous as to whether or not Keanu Reeves dies. Just to lure people for a fifth movie.

reply

John Wick definitely dies at the end. Donnie Yen's character and a character named Akira is taking over from what is set up at the end of John Wick 4.

reply

So who was the dog looking at in the cemetery?

reply

The dog looking up was a big giveaway surely.

After everything John Wick has survived I’d be disappointed if nothing short of a missile killed him let alone a bullet wound.

reply

I think they changed their minds on John Wick 5. I think they must've merged the plots to 4 and 5 into one movie, especially with how long John Wick 4 is in running time.

SPOILERS!!!

John Wick dies at the end of 4.

reply

I didn't see any dates on the grave stone.

reply

Johnny, we hardly knew ye!!!

reply

I think it is a thing to get him hidden now he is retired. I didn't see any fatal gunshot wound on him except maybe going down those stairs gave him a internal bleeding thing. I think it is just a stunt to hide him.

reply

I really hope so. Would have loved the last shot of the film to be Wick living in a small house in a remote, undisclosed location with his dog and it would have been the closest to my ideal ending for this franchise and the titular character.

Killing him off just felt like a real shitty subversion of expectations and ended the film on such a downer. The guy has literally gone through hell and back, had a multi-million dollar contract out on him, fought the best the high table could throw at him and he finally gets out but shortly afterwards seemingly dies.

reply

Maybe he's having tea with Bale's Batman.

I haven't seen this yet but of course he isn't dead. Gimme a break.

reply

Perhaps he isn't. It's still a dumb ending though. Maybe John Wick faked his death? Where is the need though when he's now free from any obligations and debts to the High Table? Is it in case the High Table change their minds and come after him again?

I dunno, it just didn't seem right to me even if it is a fake out it just kind of deflated a lot of the film and it was really unnecessary, I much preferred the endings of the previous three films.

reply

Caine was brought out of retirement by that French guy at the first of the movie.I think John knew you better look dead to stay away from the high table.

reply

That's a good point yeah.

Also the conversation John has with Caine in the church foreshadows the ending a bit.

Caine: You're gonna die.

John: Maybe not.

reply

If you watched the thing at the end of the credits then he knows somebody will want revenge even after he retires.

reply

That would be my ideal ending too. I wish he would have survived, even if they don’t make another movie.

reply

I would agree, he gets shot 3 times in the duel, one in the arm, one in the shoulder and the other one in the lower left side... If you recall the doctor that was patching him up in the 3rd movie asked John to shoot him in the same place on his left side and left shoulder because they wouldn't be fatal shots but would convince the high table that he hadn't help John willingly. So given those same shots were intended to be survivable on an old doctor they should have easily been survivable by John.

Yes he did collapse on the stairs, but that doesn't mean he collapsed because he was dead it is possible he was just tired from being up all night.

reply

That guy hit him and knocked him down a long ways down the stairs. He may have gotten some kind of internal bleeding. I just think he is hiding from the high table so they won't bring him back.

reply

I agree, a collapse does not necessarily mean dead.

It is understandable that he would be extremely tired and exhausted after fending off 130+ assassins, shot numerous times, punched and kicked everywhere, falling from elevated positions, hit by multiple vehicles, kicked down one of the most insane flight of stairs, and then injured in the hand by a samurai sword.

The three small bullet wounds are nothing in comparison to all that.

He deserved to take a nap.

reply

Read some interviews with the director that said he ain't coming back for JW5 no time soon. Burned out and out of ideas. Needs to live life a while to recharge. I suspect we're going to have years of spinoffs before if ever they bring Keanu back.

reply

Ballerina is the next Wick-affiliated movie. It’s in postproduction.

reply

And I think Keanu has a cameo in that.

reply

Yes. Along with the beautiful Ana de Armas (starring) as the ballerina is: cameos - Keanu, Ian, Lance. After that. New cast. Norman Reedus, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Anne Parillaud (these last two remind me of Luc Besson’s La femme Nikita), and lastly Catalina Sandino Moreno. Filmed in the Czech Republic.

So, in a way they did film 4 & 5 together. Just not the way they said they would or the way ppl thought. It’s better this way. You can’t top Wick 4. Ever.

reply

Just got back from my second viewing. It's true, I don't think they're ever topping this. The Paris action set piece is one of the greatest third acts to an action film ever conceived and it's almost impossible to top now, even from Chad Stahelski himself.

I'll happily watch and enjoy the spin-offs but a John Wick Chapter 5 would just be like Nolan trying to make The Dark Knight Rises a better film than The Dark Knight, it just isn't gonna happen.

reply

They will milk anything as long as there is more $$$ to be made.

John Wick 5’ Back on the Table After Box Office Blowup

reply

Maybe Lance can come back, too.

reply

Honestly, the action sequences in Paris got a little tiring and boring after a while. They spent too much time going up the stairs and while a blind assassin in a building is over the top it was way over the top to have him out there on the stairs magically knowing just where to strike. The door chimes in the first sequence at least gave a slightly plausible way... but knowing where to strike on a stairway out in the open where you would have not had intimate knowledge of it was just stupid.

The problem is the first movie was at the right level of plausibility... but with each movie afterwards it became more and more like a comic book crazy.

reply

lol, indeed. They didn’t even make Matt Murdock that far-fetched.

The bottom line is that JWC4 was basically the first three films rolled into one. This was 10% talk and 90% action sequences.

reply

The first Wick was the best. Actually, 1 and 2 are similar. And 3 and 4 are similar. I didn’t like 3 that much. I thought it was overkill and monotonous and I wondered how many more of these. That was at the time. That’s why I like how they wrapped this up. Everything was there. The finale was beautiful. A duel. The sunrise. And all in the beautiful city of Paris. You could almost envision D’Artagnan who did live in Paris next to the Seine being there. That’s the vibe the Marquis gave.

I loved the steps scene. It was completely different and bone crunching and comical and like a dance. I hope people see that this is the finale and just enjoy it. It’s not like Wick is going to find another wife and settle down and have a passel of kids and more dogs. Things do have an end. This was his story. Plus, I think Keanu has class.

reply

Never underestimate the seduction of money. If they throw enough money at him, he'll do another one. The only real hope that that wouldn't happen is if he were to retire and the the hell out of California... but as long as he lives in California the state will be draining his bank accounts like a vampire on a virgin and it is only a matter of time till he has to make more money.

reply

All them have already said they will do another one. It is up to Lionsgate to decide to do it.

reply

Lionsgate wants it. Chad maybe. A break for now. I don’t see Keanu in it tho.

reply

He lives in LA. Hollywood Hills and he’s had this place for a while. Although LA is in California, not all places in California are that great. The last couple of years, his place has doubled. Maybe tripled. I don’t think he needs to make money to live here. He’s 58 now. He probably has a place in Toronto. I honestly don’t see him making another Wick movie. This was it.

reply

Of course he’s not really dead. There will be a 5th. This will do bonanza box office. I personally could do without another one.

reply

I thought the gravestone was a metaphysical death not a real one, they're all into their rules and traditions, maybe it's something they do to show someone is 'really' out. John Wick needs to come back to take out the high table!

reply

Nick Fury had a fake gravestone at the end of Winter Soldier.

reply

Hope it’s not filmed in the Germaines 🤷‍♂️
