To be fair the kind of person who gets upset over a dumb movie deserves to be triggered ... but is it worth spending a small country's GDP to make a film no-one really cares about just to annoy a small subsection of fandom?
If you go on YouTube, there are several people talking about this. Kathleen Kennedy was basically bullshitting. She is fighting to stay at Lucasfilm, despite all efforts to get rid of her. She was actually told not to say anything at the celebration, and yet she did anyway, and a lot of people were caught off-guard and had no idea what she was talking about, including actors and crew that had either worked on Star Wars stuff in the past, or were part of current projects. Nobody had any clue she was going to spout off like that. Even Daisey Ridley was caught off-guard and had to put on a good face when drawn up to the stage by that hag.
And to be honest, I wouldn't put much stock in her "announcements." Disney/Lucasfilm has done this before; announcing a bunch of Star Wars shows/movies, and then canceling them months down the line without ever having a single page of script written, or even a single page of concept art painted.
