Do you guys think Summer and him will ever be able to become friends?

I know Summer wouldn´t have a problem with it. But the guy was really in love with her, and suffered his biggest heartbreak because of her. Do you guys think he will ever be able to trust her enough to be his friend. To really see her as someone he can count on? Could that happen in real life (having a real friendship with someone who broke your heart). I am asking because an ex is asking me to start talking with me again. I know she only wants be friends with me because she is in a relationship right now. I just don´t think I can do it, I can´t see someone who broke my heart (really bad) as someone who I can trust as a friend. I don´t know if I am being inmature. We broke up a few years ago (I know,a lot of time), and it was because she didn´t love me as Idid with her. Anyway Idon´t know if I am being inmature by saying this. But well That´s how I feel. What do you guys think?

I believe in me. I'm a little screwed up but I'm beautiful.

I think people can. However, in the context of the movie (as that is the original question I clicked on), Tom and Summer don't have any encounters after that final scene on the bench and there are those that will even argue that didn't happen.

The problem is that there was a core untruth from her...not a lie so much..as she didnt know that it was untrue that she didnt beleive in BF's or marriage...but the truth she later discovered was that she just didnt beleive it it with Tom...When she truly fell in love she changed her mind on all of those attachment things she shied away from.

Gusdanjaq I don't think you're being immature, but I think you should stop causing yourself heartache & move on.

It's easy to fall for your girl but only have your affection half reciprocated. I know from experience! It hurts because you're crazy about the girl. But if the relationship is at a stage where it should be moving forward & she doesn't want to then continuing it is farcical. You've already saved your dignity by ending the relationship instead of carrying it on half-heartedly but be careful about this renewed contact - you could end up getting hurt.

Ask yourself (& maybe even her) why she wants to talk again. Does she feel there's unfinished business? If one of you thinks this but the other doesn't you're in for heartache all over again.

Are you in a new relationship yourself? I hope you are, you seem like you have a good heart. But it doesn't belong to this old girlfriend - remember you've been there, done that & it wasn't meant to be. That's why I loved the ending of this movie. He put Summer in the past & took a step forward by asking that gorgeous girl out. Move on and move on in style!

Rejecting all contact with this ex of yours would be childish. But I wouldn't form too close a friendship with her. You'll always share a bond & care for each other but the relationship ended for a reason - don't conveniently forget this. If you ensure you remember this when striking up a friendship then go for it & get back in contact with her.

No I don't think Tom and Summer will be friends, nor do I think they should. However things work out between Tom and Autumn, he will always have special feelings for Summer. Those kind of feelings make a real friendship very difficult. Plus, while I do not view Summer as the evil psychopath that some on this board do, she was at the very least self-absorbed and careless with Tom's heart. That's not the kind of person you want as a friend.

first off, its always stupid to try to be friends with an ex-girlfriend who is now married. secondly even if it wasnt somehow completely stupid summer is just toxic to him, she just drives him nuts, so no they could never be friends of any sort.

IF he does, it won;t be for a looong time. Men can't be friends with women if they don't like them.
