REMINDER: Critics are pretentious clowns.

They've always historically dunked on horror movies. This is the latest victim in their war on horror.

Most genre fans that I've seen discussing this have enjoyed it and from taking a look at the 'rotten' reviews on RT it's clear that critics are being cockwombles per usual.

The main criticisms;

- It's a 'pointless' story, you know what will happen. You can say that about any adaptation you dickweeds. Yeah no shit if you know the Dracula story you know what's going to happen on the boat. You could say this about the majority of movies because truth be told most movies I watch I could have told you before hand the general gist of what would happen.

- One or two gimps seem to be taking issue with how Dracula is portrayed. These people are wanting some suave Count with a thick Hungarian accent.

- It's 'by the numbers'. Yeah everyone knows. It's Dracula fucking people up on a boat. Not every movie needs to reinvent the wheel.

Saw a comment online which sums it's up;
Critics when a horror movie doesn't do anything new: Unacceptable.

reply

I knew this since they trashed Little Nicky

reply

I'm looking forward to seeing it - could care less what some no-talent hack has to say about the movie.

reply

Its probably best if you wait till this comes to streaming. Its too dangerous going to theaters now because of covid

reply

Only 2 died from it at the noon showing

reply

LOL

reply

I'm sure many more will follow. Its just too damm dangerous going to a theater

reply

Good one, but I’m more concerned with bumping into those unhinged types, like that guy that beat that old man severely in Florida because he politely asked him to get out of his reserved seat.
Although I wish I would have been there to Leonidas-kick that fool in chest and buy that old man a popcorn and soda on the house afterwords.

reply

Let me guess, the man doing the beating was of the heavily sun-kissed variety?

reply

"These people are wanting some suave Count with a thick Hungarian accent."

Well, that seems weird, since the guy's Romanian.

"Not every movie needs to reinvent the wheel."

Hmm, I don't recall any passengers being on board of the Demeter besides the Russian crew, especially not a black doctor named Clemens. It's certainly a different interpretation of the book.

reply

I generally hate critics (I liked the Black Adam movie when they hated it). But I'm going to have to agree with them on this one.

This movie looks more along the line of a horror/action like Van Helsing as opposed to Horror/Drama like 92 Dracula or Interview with the Vampire.

Plus the unnecessary diversity and bad CGI aren't helping. I don't mind a Nosferatu type Dracula but this one did not com out well.

reply

Your post indicates you have not actually seen the film.

I saw it today and thought it was quite solid. It was actually better than I expected it to be. The director took a B-movie concept and made a film that's about as intelligent and thoughtful as it could be, considering the subject matter.

I have always enjoyed the atmosphere of mystery and horror films set during this time period and the filmmakers did a great job of bringing the time period to life and overlaying it with a dank and foggy ambiance.

Also, aside from just a few instances of obvious CGI, the film is very practical and tangible. Very little CGI is actually used. Most of the CGI is for the creature itself, which gets limited screentime (but this is good).

I would give the film a solid 7.5/10.

reply

The director is some unknown foreign filmmaker. Are you claiming he did a great job ?

reply

He's not unknown. He made Troll Hunter, which got some play internationally and has picked up a fair amount of fans. I saw it; it's a cool movie. He also made Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, which was a pretty good adaptation of the books.

I would say that he did a very good job with The Last Voyage of the Demeter. With a script about Dracula laying waste to a bunch of dudes on a ship, you can also go so far when it comes to trying to make a masterpiece, but I certainly thought he made a better-than-expected film, considering the story idea.

reply

Thanks

reply

Troll hunter was good but even the shittiest directors have a brain fart every once in a while.

reply

I've seen Troll Hunter, Scary Stories, and now Demeter, and I enjoyed all three. The first and the third more than the second.

reply

Yeah I bought scary stories but turned it off like ten minutes into the movie. Didn’t really care for it and I’m thankful I only spent five bucks buying it on iTunes.

reply

That's about the score I'd give it. Just saw it this evening. As you say, it's solid.

reply

Nosferatu is a lot better than this nonsense movie.

reply

You clearly haven't seen the movie.

First:: Black Adam is pure garbage.

Second: this movie looks NOTHING like Van Helsing. What the hell are you talking about?

reply

Black Adam is better than any crap Marvel produced.

Also I meant in terms of genre and style these two are similar. Neither this movie or Van Helsing gave any performances beyond your typical summer blockbuster action movie.

You must be a shill.

reply

You are a ludicrous shill.

Black Adam is pure garbage and nobody cares about that giant crap and flop.

Marvel movies are 1000000x times better and everyone watches them in cinemas. Fact.

You are just a desperate shill.

reply

No Marvel movies are for little kids like yourself that can't handle a movie with mature themes so maybe you need to grow up and get some pubes. The adults are talking.

reply

No. You are just a brainless little kid.

DC movies are only aimed for little retarded kids that can't handle a smart movie.

So YOU need to grow up and to buy a brain.

The adults are talking. Marvel movies destroy your horrendous beloved DC movies.

reply

Lol funny how most marvel moviegoers are under the age of 12.

Disney fag is obvious.

reply

Lol funny how most DC moviegoers like YOU are under the age of 10.

YOU DC gay fag is obvious.

Yeah, I saw the trailer and just noped out. The lead is a black doctor during that period? It's just so eye-roll worthy.

The biggest suspension of disbelief isn't from the monsters or the scenarios anymore, but from the ludicrous casting and characters they choose for these films.

reply

Yeah I’m a minority myself and I hate this inclusion bullshit. There’s a difference between natural diversity and tokenism, which Hollywood seems to use the latter.

This is a good movie. I rate it 7/10.

reply

A horror movie would have to have very low ratings to make me skip it like less than 30% on RT and less than 5 on IMDB. Some movies I like with poor ratings are Thinner and The Day (2011) and A Cure for Wellness. The execution of a more or less normal horror script is something that is underrated these days.

reply

I could have told you that years ago! Critics are not to be trusted when trying to find good movies or tv shows. You pay them enough money, and they'll say nice things about whatever you want. A fine example were the "positive" reviews of "Ghostbusters 2016" before it came out in theaters. The critics were very clearly lying to keep their jobs and the perks of their jobs. They love to praise crappy movies and dump all over the good ones. I stopped listening to them a long time ago.

Only once in a blue moon are they right when a movie truly is terrible. They're like broken clocks.
