Now that the dust has cleared, think way back and tell me why...

you started to watch BE in the first place?

What was the draw?

Winter? Van Patten? The Scorsese tease?

Gangster show?

Some history that hasn't already been beaten to death in film/tv?

Buscemi fan? Pitt? MacDonald? Other cast members?

You'll watch anything that HBO rolls out at 9pm on Sundays?

What was it?

Hey, at least there'll be nothing to fight about in this thread

I was initially drawn to it because of Terence Winter. I was a huge Sopranos fan. The trailers were really catchy as well.

Scorcese, Buscemi, Van Patten, Pitt, gangsters, time period

I am a fan of gangster movies and I find the 1920's a fascinating era.

I liked the first 3 seasons but then the show took an ever darkening turn and everybody who wasnt a historical character seemed destined to die.

I was just picking something I hadn't already seen on Amazon Prime. I didn't know the first thing about it. However, I was pleasantly surprised as I enjoy history and I enjoy the subject matter in particular as well as the main actor. I don't usually get quite so lucky.

Buscemi finally getting his due with a major lead role. Ironically, Nucky was one of the less interesting characters for me.

Several reasons why I watched this show going into it:

I have an association to Atlantic City and was interested in the time period in general and AC's goings on then in particular. The whole failed experiment of Prohibition, what it said about America then and even now, made that time period particularly interesting. And while Atlantic City was not literally the center of what was going on, it was involved enough and was interesting enough even without the exaggerations the show put on to make it a good locale for the show.

The cast, writers, directors and producers also got me interested, especially Marty Scorcese, the Sopranos tie in with Terence Winter, actors Kelly MacDonald, Steve Buscemi, Gretchen Mol and Michael Shannon. Fans of them in particular going back to before BE.

Most of that

The Prohibition era has always fascinated me.. . . how this could have happened and all the turmoil and criminal activity as a result. Buscimi was one of my favorite characters. Al Capone was a joy to watch. He had me laughing whenever he was in an episode. Bad guy, yes, but funny.
