Leo's Acting
Totally off the hook, when he flips out just before April runs out into the forest, you could almost see real pain in his eyes. This guy needs an Oscar already.

He was bad, and so was she.
Leo was good but Kate was better. Kate felt believable and real whereas Leo felt like an actor portraying a character.
At times Leo tried too much to be believable. Like he didn't belive enough in the character to make him realistic so he went overboard.
totally agree about his being far too mannered and over-rehearsed in some scenes.
shareThis! I actually become less and less impressed with Leo the more time goes on. He's not a terrible actor and can be very good. But, as the other poster said, it's in moments that aren't a screaming match. He just gets way too showy and loud. It becomes distracting, like "Hey! Look at me act!" I know his meltdown in the climax was supposed to take my breath away. But, it just felt forced, especially when he went into the bedroom and started gritting his teeth and balling his fists. It didn't feel real.
Kate, on the other hand. Wow. Every single moment of hers in the film is so grounded and authentic. I cry every time I see the scene where she calls Milly near the end. And I think she ran circles around him in their fight scenes. The way she stays more contained and controlled most of the time is not only more realistic but more affecting.

*beep* DiCaprio carried the movie. You need your head examined. Did it ever occurs to you that he looks controlled when he is trying to control his temper. You have no idea what it's like to see people like this in real life. I do. People *beep* shout and scream scream. They do not have actor lyrics pauses. Kate was to artificial and Leo was realistic as hell.
shareWhat film where you watching. Kate was the overly actors one. DiCaprios performance was realistic and believable.
shareI saw this when I was going through an anti-Leo phase, because I used to think he always overacts. But back then I was also going through a really depressive phase so I don't think I understood raw human emotion at all. I'll have to watch it again and judge but looking back on it I realise now he was actually really good. I think his best work is in The Departed. He went through a whole range of emotions with that performance, and he was just perfect. My biggest mistake was ever doubting him as an actor.
