Leo's Acting
Totally off the hook, when he flips out just before April runs out into the forest, you could almost see real pain in his eyes. This guy needs an Oscar already.

I agree as well. I think the might have been his finest performance to date, and Leo's an actor I always enjoy watching. His nonverbals are so strong. He can do more with a slight expression change than many actors can do with a grand speech.
Also, for as great of a job as Kate did in "The Reader," I really think she should have gotten the Oscar for "Revolutionary Road" instead. The performance might not have been as outwardly daring, but it was a beautiful, emotional tour-de-force. I found myself infuriated with April and in love with her at the same time.
Think this was his best performance.

Definitely, it was a fantastic comedic performance. When he goes all tomato-faced and balls his fists like he's trying to poop makes me laugh, he even brought that to Inception which was a nice touch.
shareIMO he was great in some scenes, but sometimes he was quite bad, especially in the more subtle moments. Also pretty bad in the hospital. It's a shame because this was one of his most Oscar-baity roles. Kate was completely confusing!

Both DiCaprio and Winslet are in top form. This film deserves every one of its four stars.

What more does the academy want from Leo? haha
I wonder if it's that they feel he is a relatively young man and will have many more chances to win one. Which is equally as lame as when they give an Oscar to an old fogey who has been nominated numerous times but never won. The sympathy Oscar.
I'll be rooting for him.

Well, they finally gave him a Best Actor Oscar for The Revenant, in which he disguised his baby face with a big beard and played it rough and tough and survivalist.
He's a good actor, and a big star(not always for the same reasons), but his baby faced looks and high pitched voice sometimes don't fit the part. Like in this movie. Hence...no nomination.
One thing that Leo has proved in his work is a real facility at YELLING in his roles. He yells in this movie, he yells at the dinner table, as plantation owner Calvin Candie in Django Unchained, he yells during some big speeches in Wolf of Wall Street(to comic effect, there), and in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he unleashes a total yelling fit at...Charles Manson's killers(he doesn't know how dangerous they are.)
I'm guessing that Leo looks for scripts that have a big yelling scene in them, to accommodate this aspect of his talent...and if the script doesn't HAVE a yelling scene...I'll bet he requests that one be put into it.
Leo thus joins other famous star movie yellers like Al Pacino(the all time champ) and Jack Nicholson(at Ann Margret in Carnal Knowledge, at Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, at a church full of people in the Witches of Eastwick) in a key to his stardom. Also, for those who remember him -- George C. Scott, who did some terrifying "off the charts" yelling as a frustrated, suicidal doctor("We cure NOTHING!!") in The Hospital.
