shareEven if some couples frequently engaged in sex in those times, there have been a number of books written about how married life was almost traditionally implied to be non-sexual.
This is why mistresses were so much more prominent in those days, although now many men still have them it's less of a mainstay.
Basically consider getting married and you have sex maybe a dozen times and it's all about making babies. In those circumstances I would imagine the men would last far longer but in the film we are shown spur of the moment, alcohol driven lust. For a man who is living the married life, consider that sex during pregnancy was just not considered for most, so we're given the age of the men at 30 and Frank's friend has 4 children which is roughly 3 years of no sex in that marriage.
I will however say the director probably didn't want the sex scenes to impact the audience and thus shortened them to a surrealist speed, because even men with premature ejaculation can last longer than what was shown on screen.

why do people think that sex was invented in he 50's? God made sex so men an women can not only show the closest kind of love toward each other physically, but also so life can be created and thus ensure the continuation of the human race. this goes with animals as well. The romans were doing it, the classical composers of he 1600's were doing it, adam and eve were doing it! its not just men and women from the 50's. is just that this particular film was dealing with this time period.

Err, the big irony is that the most porn-watching OECD nations are also the most sexually repressed because porn does not even remotely resemble real life sex or can teach you any useful sexual skill (happy to be proven wrong here). The US is a big offender on this front.
And porn has existed for 1000s of years - there is pornographic rock art in existence.
