Cate Blanchett ruined the movie for me...

I just turned off after 30 minutes or so because of Cate Blanchett. Am I the only one who cant watch a movie with her in it? Im like so not liking her i cant explain. Being a big fan of Riddley Scott makes this even worse.
It seems everyone else loved her performance or what????

Liking an actor or not is a matter of preference.

I thought Blanchett was perfect in the film. Even though she is a Noble in the film, she is also Farmer. Because Robert practically abandoned her and his father, she had to take his place in running the family estate. That is true to history in that many women did this while the husbands were away fighting. Many medieval women had to lead local troops to protect their land when it was attacked by other nobles.

So Blanchett was not playing a glamorous depiction of Marian in this film.

I think shes a fine actor, i thought she did good in this, and she was damn good in LoTR I thought.

Now i cant stand Renée Zellweger. UGH

Strange coincidence darkspark I also find Gwynewth Paltrow almost as annoying as Blanchet. I believe they both portray on and off screen a similar persona and its one that I really dont like.

I love Cate Blanchett and yet I aggree. She was terribly miscast in this movie mainly for being way to old for the part. Maid Marion has always been a young lady and yet Cate is way too "Mommyish". Also, what is with all these Damsels being now portrayed as Zenas? Keira Knightly's Geneviere was way to wild vs. the way she is read in the King Arthur legend.

"What's the fastest way to kill a slasher flick? Slap it with a PG-13."

So is Cate's too mommyish or Zena-fied?

moommyish, unattractive boring, the list goes on...

yeah, she was good in "The Good German" where she played a woman who had sold everything for survival. There is a vicous sex scene where Toby Maguire is hate banging her and where ever she went to play that role must be depressing. I don't see much real happiness in her and there is never a moment of genuine ease. I like her but there is something unlikeable about her and there always has been. Maybe this is why she interesting to watch. I think she is extremely selfish and popular whenever she wants to be.

I love everything about Cate Blanchett, and it is impossible for her to ruin any movie.

She should have played Maid Marion's older maiden not a young and pretty girl. Horrible choice for such an integral character in the story.

I understand just having an off reaction to an actor or actress - fair enough. Personally though, I loved Blanchett in this and I've been a fan since seeing her in "Oscar and Lucinda" in the mid 90s.

That topic is wrong. Cate Blanchett was great in that movie. I love her minimalist performance. Cate and Max were the best.

I have to agree, as a follower of both Ridley Scott's and Cate Blanchett's work I am unable to see the problem(s) experienced by OP.

I suppose people are entitled to their own opinions, and I am voicing mine, which is that Cate Blanchett actually made this movie worth watching, her performance was superb.

On the other hand I found it disappointing that for whatever reason (poor scripting choice) she was featured during the final fight with the French.

Either way, past the above comments I am not interested in getting involved in any other related argument.
