Heartbroken Over Drogon.

That was the most heartbreaking moment of the finale, besides Jon killing Dany & having to be exiled for life. I’m actually kinda surprised that there aren’t numerous posts already discussing it. Drogon might have been a feared killer he was his mama's baby. His pain over her death was devastating to see. We all wondered about what would become of him if she was killed & now we know.

Truly heartbreaking to see his pain & rage over Dany’s death & his reaction to Jon. Now I’m sure many of you were ready for the “burn” moment you all thought would come but it was even more tragic to see Drogon direct his fury all around him instead.

It’s NOT because Jon was a Targaryen, as he could’ve been eaten, stomped or picked up & dropped instead of burned. Drogon’s refusal wasn’t because he “couldn’t” but because he “wouldn’t” which made the scene all the more sad.

What Drogon chose to do was truly a tear jerking moment by incinerating the Iron Throne as if he knew what it was & what it stood for & that it was his mothers so he made sure it was gone so no one else could have it.

Bran did say or allude to the fact that he had a way to check up on Drogon & we all suspect what they might be, but I’m glad they didn’t show it. Who knows where Drogon brought the body but it’s one of the saddest moments yet in this lackluster finale.

P.S. How did everyone like that scene where Drogon spread his wings right behind Dany, making it appear that she sprouted wings? That obviously was the money shot. Surprised no one is taking about that here.

I was sorry for him too. His siblings are gone, his mother is gone, there is no other specimen of his kind left. He probably won't be welcome anywhere, people will be afraid of him and will try to kill him. Very sad.

reply

Maybe, just maybe the eggs that Dany had weren't the last ones. Maybe somehow, somewhere there are still dragons living in the wild.

reply

Yes! I choose to believe that! Maybe he'll find a female dragon out there in wild...somewhere. I have to believe that!

reply

My take on the throne destruction was that the dragon understood that all this grief and all this bullshit was all because of that stupid throne so he just nuked it.

reply

That was pretty much my take on it as well TandyMan. Don't know how he grasped it but he did.

reply

I don't know how they conveyed all that with CGI in a tv show! Very impressive.

reply

Drogon should be sitting on the throne right now.

reply

Yeah that was a very good shot, liked that a lot.

reply

Do we even know that Drogon is male? Maybe she's pregnant by one of the other dragons and will go lay eggs somewhere and start a family. :)

reply

Good question. Did even Dany know? Did she care? How could anybody tell? Who knows? But I’ve always suspected that they were all male.

reply

One of the always looked like it was pregnant to me and I was expecting that it would drop some eggs at some point.

The moment when Drogon melted the Iron Throne worked on so many levels. It was pure art. It makes sense both in the context on the story and on a symbolic level. I am impressed.

reply

No, it was retarded because it made the assumption that Drogon FULLY comprehended the importance of the Iron Throne, which is absolutely ludicrous coming from a foreign creature that had no prior knowledge of the Iron Throne (nor understood English).

reply

That was a nice shot, but it's been done enough times that it felt a little played when I saw it again last night.

reply

I loved the scene where Drogon opened his wings behind Dany, making her look like a human dragon!

I actually thought that the end of Drogon's part in the tale with flying away with Dany's body was cheesy, although I liked the very symbol of her downfall being melted to slag and Jon bearing the brunt of the heat. What I'd like to know is, what is Drogon going to do with her body? Cremate it in a private ceremony on some rocky outcrop and grieve in his solitude? That IS sad, if so.

reply

Cremate her? She cannot be burnt, not even while dead I think... That was one of her titles...

reply

Ah.

In that case, I don't know.

reply

I figured he would return to Mereen.

reply

Snacktime while crossing the ocean.

Why am I reminded of the Harry Potter segment of the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror, where Monty Burns is Voldemort, Smithers is Nagini, his pet snake, and after the Simpsons defeat Voldemort, Nagini eats his body, mournfully?
