16 year old, talking like a 30/40 year old.

I kind of enjoyed the film apart from Juno talking unlike any 16 year old I've ever seen. I think that by making Juno a real character the movie woud have been much more powerful. I cant understand why they made her a 16 year-old gag-spouting, care-free person. Thats a fantasy character.....

acrtually her lines were what really made the movie for me. not all teenage girls are airheaded. some of them are older than their age. personally i was alot like the main character. she did a great job in her role. she was portraying a "real" character and being a guy you have no idea how real it can get when your pregnant as a teenager.

reply

yeah i def agree with ya on this one. :)

The whole original comment is BS: with few exceptions, Juno does NOT talk like an adult at all. She and her weird friend have some of the silliest dialogue there is, very obviously confused kids.

If a 40 year old talked like this they would be a bit sad.

I believe you're confusing references with clever, smart dialogue. I make plenty of references, not as much as Juno, but I kind-a speak like that and I'm still not 17.
No, not confusing those at all. The entire movie is filled with both.

I'm 15. Contrary to popular belief, most of the people I know my age, including me, are incredibly clever and witty. We talk as if we know what we're talking about, because we do. We use puns and gags just like anyone over the age of 25 or 30. Just like Juno. She's a very realistic character. You don't attend high school now, do you? People are like that. She's real because she's a girl who's different, but has managed to keep it together through hard times. The way she speaks isn't really relevant at all, but it's funny, and it adds another level to the movie. The whole 'thanks a heap, coyote ugly. your cactus-gram stinks more than your abandonment.' thing is something me and my friends would totally say! Keep your nose where it knows what its sniffing next time, please.

I think you're right on with your criticism Joe. Every line out of Juno's mouth sounded written and, in fact, written for maximum comic effect. And, no, it's not how 16 year olds talk. It's how mediocre screenwriters imagine they talk.

I agree with the OP.I know absolutely NO teenager that talks like Juno did.maybe a few quirky pop culture references, but not 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The quirkier and cuter they tried to make her look, the more I wanted to vomit.

ITS A MOVIE NOT A FRIGGAN DOCUMENTARY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET OVER IT! kthnx :)

my 10yr old niece talks like that

I'm fully with the OP on this one. I just watched this with my gf last week (we're both late 20's) and there was nothing else on to watch. We laughed at how crappy the dialogue was with the main character, it was as if some guy in his 30's was writing the script for 'How I met your Mother'. Unrealistic and annoying.

"Is that you John Wayne? Is this me?"

Maybe it's because too many 30/40 year olds are talking like 16 years olds. Where are the adults these days?

If 50 is the new 40 and 40 is the new 30, doesn't that mean that 20 is the new 10?

Exactly. Even the wittiest pop culture geek doesn't speak like Juno all the time.

Some 16 year olds do really talk like that. Heck I have seen kids speaking like adults before. It's *beep* creepy, but it does happen.
