Anybody else think Ms. Morello is just insulting?
It was funny at first but then it started to become a bit too much. Now I just find it way more insulting than funny.

shareMs. Morello is a bit funny, especially whenever she displays her 'jungle fever'. My mother (dispite the jungle fever thing) was just like Ms. Morello. It always used to piss off my siblings and I black friends to the point where most of them hated coming over our house.
"Natalie Wood died for our sins"-Oh9
YES. Ughh I hate her. I was so happy when Chris left the jr high school and we weren't gonna see her anymore. Gawd then I was dissappointed when she became the principal of the high school.
shareObviously she is racist. I think it's funny how ignorant she is (doesn't mean that I think what she says is right!)...so she makes me laugh hehe
shareI'm hot and cold on this issue...I'm sure the character is just supposed to be exaggerated for comic effect, but some of the things she says to Chris really were kind of offensive...they really pushed the envelope with that character.
shareIf present-day teachers say the things she did even one time, they are lucky if they still have a job. Not to mention the possibility of a potential lawsuit against the school and district for racial harassment. It has happened since the era of the show(early to mid-80's), such as the "Water Buffalo" incident. A white student at the University of Pennsylvania blurted out the term in frustration because black sorority girls were making a lot of noise near his dorm room while he was trying to study. The term was a literal translation of a Hebrew word, but he was nearly expelled because they interpreted it as racial harassment even though the word was not used in that context.
It is even more serious in the workplace. I read about a supervisor who continually harassed two employees of Middle Eastern origin with terrorist remarks. They quit, sued the company and were awarded $61 MILLION.
My point is that in this day and age, we all have to be careful what we say because it could come back to bite us. Ms. Morello's comments were funny but inappropriate, yet if Chris Rock could laugh them off, I guess the rest of us can as well.
I love her. I think she's hilarious. At first she annoyed me but she actually doesn't MEAN any harm so I can't be mad at her for being incredibly stupid.
And people really need to get their definitions straight. She's isn't racist. She's prejudice. A racist thinks all other races aside from their own are inferior. Ms. Morello is just so stupid she believes stereotypes and generalizations to be true without any proof IE: PREJUDICE. She's got a very bad case of jungle fever and that in itself is likely built from stereotypes. She never expressed a notion that whites were better than blacks for any reason, so I reiterate, so is NOT racist.
Favorite scene with her:
"Greg hunny, what's the matter? You're usually so upbeat in the morning?"
"I stayed the night over Chris's"
"OH MY GOD ARE YOU DRUNK! Did they give you a forty for breakfast!"
I spit out my drink at that.
And just to be clear:

Racism always involved prejudice, but you can definitely have many prejudices and yet not racist.

I hate the term "jungle fever" because it makes it sound like only sexual lust can exist between folks of a different color---it such a lame-as-hell-racist stereotype. Especially since I've known a bunch of interracial couples (some in my own family) that have had long and lasting unions (as well as kids) with each other. Besides, the term always sounded stupid to me---what the hell does sexual list bwt peole of different races and cultures have to do with the damn jungle anyway? Nothing---not a damn thing.
Ms. Morello is indeed very insulting, but not mainly because of her racism.
The insulting part of her is that apparently the hack writers thought her inane dialogue is supposed to be intelligent and/or funny - it's not.
Any moron with basic literacy skills could write better, more interesting, and more funny dialogue to replace anything that Ms. Morello has ever said.
