Why don't people like J.Lo?

Thank you, I really don't know why people are always hating on Jennifer Lopez. I think this was one of her breakthrough performances. so i don't know what the hell is the problem?...............

Hello everyone. I don't usually post on threads like this, but the passion and arguements (both valid and inane) have inspired me. I would like to say that I admire the pro-Jennifer fans. I have neutral feelings about her, but if I were a true fan I would defend her. That being said, it is a bit presumptious to assume that people who are not impressed with a celebrity are jealous. I am sure that there are celebrities that you are not impressed with and being that the subject question is " why don't people like J. Lo?" it is perfectly valid to express a reason. There are plenty of people that immaturely post hateful things about actors on these boards, but the people on this board are not commenting so much on the superficial as they are genuinely trying to pinpoint why they have a dislike for her and it all seems to boil down to her attitude and contributions to entertainment.
I'll admit it... I have a bottle of Glow. When On the 6 was released, I bought it because it is quite a fun album. The fact that her voice is thin and doesn't have much range is irrelevant. The infectious beats, stylish videos and tenacity of Tommy Mottola ensured its success.
Can't say I really bothered with her other musical efforts. The tracks sound overproduced and generic, as if they are just trying to net a quick profit from this relatively new urban pop market. This really isn't Jennifer's fault that a.) she wants to sing and make money and b.)the music industry is degenerating into a cesspool of clones, greed, and unoriginality (I am sick of people sampling lyrics, beats and covering songs. It's done too often now.)
I didn't like how she (supposedly--she claims she was "misquoted") slammed the singers Madonna and Mariah Carey in the press. She was still an up and comer when she did this and it seemed brash. Whether you like these ladies music or public demeanor, you can at least say that they are singers that perform and compose certifiable hits.
She also (allegedly) attributed Gwyneth Paltrow's success to her association with Brad Pitt, which I also thought was a bit crass...and oddly enough I don't really care for her either.
Her acting ability is questionable. I haven't seen every movie she has made but I will confess that I enjoyed Selena, Out of Sight, and Blood and Wine. These films work for reasons that really have nothing to do with Lopez though. Selena for sentiment, Out of Sight for George Clooney's charisma and solid directing, and Blood and Wine for a tight script and the masterful performances by good ol' Jack and Michael Caine.
People are lauding her performance in El Cantante for the same reason I did. It was not the typical romantic comedy commercial fare that we are used to seeing her in as of late. Nor is it one of those "I am Jennifer Lopez and I want you to remember I am an actress" roles like An Unfinished Life. Her genuine interest in the project is what people respond to. She tried. And it shows.
I was at a screening of the film recently and I was a little disappointed. The gripes about Jennifer Lopez dominating screen time are true. I didn't understand why Lopez was in practically every scene. Sure she is the headliner of the film and narrates it through a documentary style but it felt like vanity from either Lopez herself or just poor writing. The excellent film Gia starring Angelina Jolie employs a similar documentary style technique with her mother as the narrator and various interviews from her peers, but these characters were supporting members. The story was clearly about Gia. Lopez receives most of the lines and whittles the character of Lavoe down to a mere glorified extra.
Anthony was a real treat and I thought he was fantastic. With his rich voice, frail frame and unconventional looks, Anthony embodied this character. There is one particular scene of him wandering a hospital corridor that absolutely broke my heart. I think that speaks volumes, for an actor to draw an emotional response without words as tools. Lavoe deserved more than this, a film that focused more on his relationship with his vulgar wife, but his legacy will live on through his music. Actually it is Anthony that I feel sorry for. Had the powers that be had more confidence in the fact that he is a competent actor, perhaps this could have been a golden opportunity.
Then there is the clothing line. I will also give Lopez credit here because unlike other celebrities, she actually wears clothes she "designs". As a fashion student, I feel obligated to inform you that the quality of the clothing is poor and that they are overpriced. Even this is fine with me. If girlfriend wants to make a profit, I'm not mad at her. Celebrities hawk Proactiv, cosmetics,designer clothes--everything. The celebrity clothing line is just an extension of that. Her business savvy and ability to self-promote is really remarkable.
As for her public romances, who cares? It's great water cooler talk. Puffy is jealous. Ben called off the wedding. We love the drama. It only fuels her appeal because people are talking about her and are interested. I don't think she's a ho like everyone says anyway. She seems like a serial monogamist. Don't know her at all though so...
I find all of these things tolerable. The reason I don't like Jennifer Lopez sometimes is, well, because of Jennifer Lopez. In her both her print and television interviews, there is an unnerving arrogance that makes her unattractive in my eyes. Sure she looks lovely, but if you listen to the way she talks to people sometimes it can come across as rude and condescending. It isn't even the attitude of someone with confidence, it just seems like feigned indifference. That's my only real problem with her. That doesn't mean I won't see a movie or buy an album of hers if it looks interesting. That's all.
