I have to admit that I hadn't even heard of this film until a few weeks ago. I was expecting a boring theoretical sci-fi movie. I was wrong. This was as much of a thriller as any movie I've ever seen. In fact, I watched again upon finishing it the first time. I've only done that to a few movies.
The film blew me away when I first saw it. The music was beautiful, the sly nods to sci-fi classics. People very ignorantly write off the final section as an unnecessary and strange shift into the slasher genre when in reality it's a perfectly viable plot line considering the circumstances. Imagine being that captain, alone on Icarus 1 for so long with nothing to do but ponder our place in the universe...don't you think you would get a tad delusional/crazy?
Yes i was. Like everyone else I didn't realize this film would be this good before watching it. it isn't very popular. But it was awesome. I wish I had seen in the movie theatre! i feel now.
The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world he didnt exist 👿
It was an exceptionally, beautifully, incredibly mindblowing experience. I even had to forgive them the crazy Pinbacker (although I'm still a bit angry, in the end it didn't matter... the stunning sequence of Capa's last seconds with that music is the very definition of catharsis). On the one hand I'm sad I missed it in the cinema, on the other — had to stop it a few times to let some things sink in and, well, to just grieve about another crew member they lost... I'm going to watch Interstellar tomorrow in the cinema, I hope it won't disappoint...:)
P.S.: I know your post is old, but I just had to comment. Sunshine is so stunning, you need to vent those feelings on somebody afterwards.:)
One of my favourite Sci-Fi films ever. The story isn't perfect, but the soundtrack, the acting, the mood, the "heroism" makes it one of the few movies I come back to for reflection. The premise, that none makes it, without any possibility of anyone ever knowing why is profound. Still, mission success. The little details. I often go back to IMDB to check if the same director is making another Sci-Fi project.
Watching it again now, for like, the 8th time after watching Erik Wernquists "Wanderers". Just simply brings hope into my heart, that we are capable of amazing things, rationally, if we just put our hearts and souls into it.
A beautiful piece, I could take the whole movie apart by complaining about it all, but I do not see any point. I love it for all it flaws. And everyone involved in this project should be extremely proud.
Edit: The film ends with probably the most appropriate end credit ever. - if you pass the first part. With I am Kloot playing "Avenue of Hope". There is no way of making it through that last part without losing a 4th of your bodyweight in tears while trying to sing the lyrics.
I think that one of the reasons why so many like this movie is because we see ourselves in the same "vessel". We are all human, "on the last ship" trying to make life eternal - and some do sacrifice extremes for the greater good which makes me enourmously emotional.
If you ever had caring parents, or friends who went out of their way to make your life a little easier, you know what I mean.
You do not need to fly into the sun to be a hero, be a hero today and help people around you. Even share a smile, and the reward will be felt down the line. Personally, I am one of these idiots who actually believe this can change the whole outcome of the species.
my TOP space/astronaut movie of ALL TIME !! Watched it again today, still love it ! and in last part, captain appearing as ghost did not ruined my experience.. it completes the movie perfectly!
