People who find Aristocrats funny, simply aren't.

You can go on about pushing the limits of taboo, exploring our perceived notions of tolerance or looking beyond the content of a joke to find its humour but the bottom line is that this film must be one of the worst ever made. It lowered my opinion of both comics (who seem to be narcissistic creeps) and Americans (who everyone hates anyway). I feel sorry for anyone unfortunate to have been seduced by the attractive cast (and attractive it is), spent money and taken more time out of their lives than was necessary to see this in the cinema. I urge anyone with a sense of humour to avoid it at all costs.

You have been warned.

0/10.

You are dead on justin_uk when you say this is one of the worst films ever made. I've seen some horrible shows but this is the first one I can remember giving up on, that's how bad it is. It's completely void of any comedy, it's a lot like listening to some disrespectful puke teenagers have a conversation.

Two words: Benny. Hill.

I agree with you, but I think it is unfair to blame America. If anything, I feel most of America would agree that films such as this represent what is wrong with the world.

reply

I don't get it. culture has a deep effect on comedy. waste of time for me.

Ya know...I went on a road trip with a trucker friend of mine in July/August and he has XM Radio. On XM, there is a channel totally devoted to 2 djs...Opie and Anthony (awesome, btw \m/). Before this movie came out, they had the clip of Cartman telling this joke to the other kids. My response was, "Wtf?" Couple days later, they had Bob Saget on their show and he explained the Aristocrat joke (bear with me, it's been a while since I've heard the interview):

It's not really a 'joke', per se`. Seasoned comics back in the day would tell this 'joke' to newbie comics, people that wanted to be comics, at their first comic gig, what have you. When they would finish the joke, the newbie would feel compelled to laugh because this veteran comic was telling it to them. It was, also, used as a warmup. The content of the 'joke' depends on the comic, as well. The 'joke' kinda changes from person to person. Ok, I'm kinda bouncing from fact to fact but in short...this 'joke' isn't really meant to be funny.

It has little to no point and has nothing to do with anything. Why would you expect it to be funny?

So, yeah. Not meant to be funny...documentary. If you find it funny, great, but don't expect it to be. :)

reply

this movie (documentry w/e) was *beep* funny. if you dont laugh at it then you're the one who doesnt have humor.

one of the funniest films I ever saw.
I urge anyone with a sense of humour to watch it at all costs.

This thread needs to be closed.

And I'll go one step further. Message boards are here for you to voice your opinions on things you know or have at least gathered information, not blindly throwing around invalid and untrue opinions that aren't based on any fact.

Who here is a comedian? Just me. Okay. You don't understand the premise, the joke, or anything in between. And it's not something you can simply explain. You get it or you don't.

reply

I agree that most of this thread is worthless. But please, what is an "invalid or untrue opinion"? People rarely "base their opinions on fact." That's what makes it an opinion. For a comedian, you seem to have a pretty low tolerance for hecklers.

reply

awhh jesus...another limey bast*rd started an anti-american thread.

reply

I thought it was an interesting documentary
It has nothing to do with being American
It has to do with how creative u can be on the spot and it challenges the comedians b/c the things they have to improvise are quite disgusting atrocious

reply

The movie sucks. What's not to get about unimaginative filth? Really, how hard could it be to think up something just as foul? Is that all it takes to become a stand up? Don't answer that last question, we already know.

supersiyinsage, You are an embarrassment to blue states AND stand up comedy, if the later is possible.

supersaiyinsage, you are right, we should knock off the anti-American crap. Only you should be allowed to do that.

Also, I would like you to consider adding Churchill, Hitler and Van Johnson to one of your future lists.

I've tried to tell this joke to people, and I'm a fairly quick witted guy and I know my filth so I know enough filty crap to make this joke work, but I had huge issues getting the joke out, either I don't know when to stop or I can't get going, the joke is much harder to tell than it looks, these guys are pros and trust me on this the joke is damn hard to tell, really damn hard.

I agree, but I think I see a trend among those who post opinions. They have an agenda of sorts. They don't see to be nearly as concerned with whether or not this film is funny, as they are concerned that others not criticize it.

reply

It appears now their agenda is to sell the DVD. Notice all the curious consumers asking about the DVD, as if you can't just go to your local Blockbuster and pick one right out of the dicount bin.

reply

I found that curious also, all the recent 'curiosity' about how to get the dvd and what's on it. I don't suppose you could get that information at say a Amazon or Blockbuster video or something. I need to discuss all my $15 purchases before I make them.

i found certain parts of it funny. some of it wasnt. i think it was too long of a documentary for the subject matter. i'd give it a 5 out of 10.

i love comedy and comedians which is why i wanted to see this. i am open minded, but it wasnt as good asi hoped. dont get me wrong, i did find about half of it funny. especially bob saget, taylor negron, and the card trick dude. there were others, but i cant remember right now.
