Does this really happen in USA?

Im a 16 year old girl and i live in scotland, and i have to admit that the bullying that goes on in most of scottish schools is really nothing like whats shown in this film. Nothing is really schemed or planned by girls to bully other girls. Girls just tend to bitch behind eachothers back but be nice to the person in real life, and nobody really acts on what they say. Its only some girls that shout abuse at others, but nothing really on a large scale, and nothing so calculated as shown in this film!

Does this actually happen to people in America whats shown in this film?

This film was fairly accurate. If someone told me this happened to them in America, I would believe it.

well, this is an extreme case of bullying. I am a guy and have previously never seen bullying by girls to this extreme. I live in Canada, and girls most do stuff behind their backs. However, there has always been reports of stuff like this in the news. A couple years ago I saw on the news, that two best friends killed their girlfriend because they were jealous of her hair colour. So to answer your question, yes. However, this is -again- an extreme case of it...

Serious Connor? That's really sad!
Yeah, it can get pretty extreme..it even goes onto the internet sometimes. A friend of mine, right on the day of our graduation too, got a really nasty email from a girl in our class (who sucks up to the popular girls, "The Alphas"..sounds like she's doing dirty work for them, eh?) She was really upset throughout the graduation.
I think it's alot like what happened in the movie..guys can fight, but they seem to make up afterwords. Girls, we rip each other apart until there's nothing left.

I've got to make room for this feeling

I knew girls who were bullied to this extreme, and I was one of them. it sux and no one wants to admit it is happening, they would rather just tell you to get over it.

I live in New York & I can tell you firsthand that bullying like this is very, VERY common. I'm shocked that it's only like this in the US..I'd expect it to be everywhere. There are girls (including myself) who have cut themselves constantly because we didn't feel like we fit in. It's what every teenage girl strives to be - normal. If you're not, then... it leads to extreme measures like this.
I hate to say this, but it's a common practice now. I think it's horrible, but that's the truth...

Sad to say that crap like this happens in high schools. I don't know if it happens in every school in the States but it totally happened in the high school that I went to. Girls there were vicious and totally made life a living hell for other girls.

Sadly, yes, the film did portray bullying just as it is in middle schools/high schools in the US. Actually, it is a lot worse, depending on the scenario. Speaking as someone who has witnessed bullying first hand, teenagers can be really cruel. You will not believe the links they go to just to make someone feel bad, or hate themself. The movie was a condesned version of what really goes on in schools today.

it happens everywhere... here in mexico it is really common because in private schools, its like a competition to see who has more money.. and white mexican elite hates brown mexicans... this happens in my school everyday.. my friends are always teasing a boy because he is dark and mostly because he is a teachers son.. so he doesnt have a lot of money like the rest.

reply

Yeah, it does. (Not all the time, naturally. it isn't like there are plotting parties being held every other day or whatever LoL) But, yeah, it happens. But it's not just in the USA. You are just lucky to not ever have witnessed or experienced it.

Sadly, it does happen. I'm from California and growing up I was teased a lot by a bunch of girls who pretended to be my friends. What's funny is that it shows just what type of girls they are. They're cruel, nasty, but then pretend like it never happened the second they're caught. I grew a thick skin, much like Alexa Vegas' character in the end, so they couldn't hurt me as I got older. Lol, it doesn't hurt that I ended up making something of myself either.

However, don't think that every part of the U.S. is this bad. Trust me, like I said - it happens, but this movie was extremely dramatic. Just like the movie Thirteen (a great movie by the way). It demonstrates the extremes, what happens when girls go to great lengths in order to fit in, but generally it's an overexaggeration.

It so happens. Something like that happened to me but it didn't get to the point where I had a mental breakdown and chopped off all my hair or to the point where I O.D on sleeping pills, but I was part of the popular crowd and then one day nobody spoke to me or even looked at me. It was as if I was invisble or something. They even talked about me to girls outside of school and girls I didn't know were sending me stuff saying how much they hated me and I should kill myself. One of them even tried to beat me up. I'm not friends with any of those girls anymore and now we all just act like we were never friends. Like, I kinda hate them, but if I think about it I have to thank them for making me into the person I am today. Back then when all this happened I was a fake backstabbing b****, but now I'm more mature and real.
