The sex scenes were too long and definitely gratutitous. I realize their role was to highlight aspects of her character, but leaving *nothing* to the imagination is not terribly engaging (unless you're an adolescent boy). Like I said, I understand what those scenes are trying to communicate about who Sherry is, and who she's become, but the audience didn't need scenes that graphic. I'm sure it will increase viewership among a certain demographic, though I doubt that for the most part it's the same demo who would be interested in the story in the first place.

And to the person who thought her breasts sit nicely on her chest, I can't find anyone who agrees. For someone as young as Maggie, they sit very low on her chest, which seems unusual for someone who isn't terribly large-breasted. Lots of different shapes out there, I know, but my wife and I actually had the opposite reaction from the other poster. Our friends who saw it were also unimpressed. Still, Maggie's a fine actress, I just wish I hadn't had to see her going at it like an animal with the film's various lowlifes. It detracted from my enjoyment of the film. It was gritty, I get it, but didn't seem to show much about her development throughout the story.

i have worked with oversexualized women in drug rehab, and they are the negative flip side of prude. instead of being prude like the anti boob people here, they are sexualized but not in touch with their own sexuality. sex is an escape for them. and a tool.

for those of us who like sex, sex should be MORE part of many movies...if you have a weekend or day in which you have sex, especially if you have not in a while, it totally changes the way you feel.

the movie showed how she uses sex as a drug and a tool.

i thought the most loving, intimate scene was the cleansing bath she took with dean. not sexual at all.

I'm always amazed at how fixated some people are on boobies and naughty bits and sex in general. Please, people, get over it. We're all humans. Women have boobs and hoohoos. Men have peepees.

Those who thought this movie's nude/sex scenes were a bit much missed the boat on the movie. I agree with the poster who posited that Sherry is a woman who's sexualizing most of her relationships with men, but is at the same time not in touch with her sexuality and feelings. Molested by her father, she's learned that sex is a commodity and has not been trained or taught to develop other skills as commodities, but she's trying her hardest to learn something-- anything-- other than offering her sexuality.

It's a thought-provoking film on so many layers and here we have people going, "I thought the boobs in this movie were a bit much."

They're lovely to look at.

They're a major asset (together with some other physical things) going for her. She used them and the rest before getting sent to the clink and now finds she needs to use them again, to climb a little out of the deep hole she was in emerging from prison.

This is not to say she doesn't have other assets: her spirit; her essentially sunny personality when given any chance; her gorgeous and winning smiles; her mental sexuality and sensuality; and yes her intelligence. It is to say that much of the outside world, while influenced by these things in how they interact with her, are not really willing to give her status or credit for them. Instead, she must appeal largely at a more base level.

I'm guessing that was an intentional joke at the expense of those who need their sexuality infantilized. I laughed my ass off when I read it.
