Why the hell did you like this movie?

This is a real question, I'm interested. Because I find it really bad. I just don't understand how you could like it.
The story in the past manages to be both over-simplistic and underwhelming, yet it was still the one I preferred. The future story is terribly far fetched, and the present greys-anatomy-story let me voiceless.
When they found how to cure Izzi's disease 5 seconds after her final attack, the movie was just dead to me. I mean this is so cheap, I didn't expect that in an Aronofsky.

So if you like it please share your reason!
Are you religious? Are you a big fan of through-the-ages-love-stories? Do you like Wolverine?

The soundtrack is FAR BEYOND WORDS!

When I saw it for the first time, I had just been diagnosed with late stage cancer. I watched it with my husband. One of the most devastating and beautiful experiences of my life.We sat there for a long time after, stunned and maybe even with a deeper appreciation of our love.

I get it. This isn't for everyone, but for the people who do love this movie, it is a visceral, very personal experience not soon forgotten.

(I'm still here thanks to many great doctors and loved ones)

While I don't demand an explanation as to why someone would like it. I did find it to be two hours of pretentious nonsense. I decided to do some research to find the underlining themes and give it a second chance and found it to be even worse the second time. Big fan of Jackman and Weisz, and while our world views are completely different, I usually enjoy Aronofsky too. This was a pretty empty film for me with a pretty uninspiring message. Just not a fan at all.

If you liked it, good for you. There are people who like Heaven's Gate and Battlefield Earth too. A person likes what they like.

I thought it was just decent. It had a lot of flaws, but it was well-acted and directed. And its ambitiousness was so palpable.

Guessing the OP is one of the dozens of people I've watched it with who act pretentious by calling it a pretentious film because they don't understand it, then pretend to understand it and finally have it explained to them and realize their B.A. in Lib Arts was $250,000 down the toilet when they could have read a few Jung books?

Yep. Nailed it.

reply

No, you're a moron who fails to understand that there are people who don't like the movies you like. Nailed it!

this movie is just like hard video games, if people can't play the game they hate it just because they can't play it very well, no matter if the game is a master peace.

this movie is the same, those who don't understand it, will hate it no matter if this is a master peace, and those who understand at least 70 percent of it, will love it.

that's why you didn't like it, because you saw it like a love story movie like TITANIC not like meaningful movie.

I suggest you research about the tons of the materials Mr Aronofsky put in it's story by doing a huge research about so many different cultures and religions. then watch this movie again.
and then you'll understand how great this movie is made.

and I also found this interesting. read it, it helps you a little bit:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414993/board/thread/164940256

and by the way even if some one doesn't like the movie itself, I think its music is a master peace by itself that deserves all the awards exist. no one can make music like that.

Even viewing it "only" as a love story, the movie is still incredibly powerful. She loves him so much that, even as she is dying, she is trying help him prepare for her death. He loves her so much that he cannot stop trying to save/restore her, even if it means thousands of years of denying her death, along with the pain that comes with that denial. At the end, he still loves her, but finally accepts and is at peace with her death. All without schmaltz.

this movie was an actual waste of time. I never say that because I always manage to find some context to cling onto, but this load of feces was +2hours of anxiety, incoherence, melodrama and esoteric nonsense.

Do the three stories correlate? No. Is Izzy and "the dude" (I even can't remember his name 'cause all he was doing was screaming her name, SMH) reincarnations of themselves? No.

The motivations of each storyline are different and have nothing to do with one another. There's no revelation, no character development. Even the scenes are independent of each other. We learn nothing; we have nothing

Is the movie about love? maybe. Is the movie about one's journey/self-discovery/ambition? no. sorta. (who cares)

And then this "ring" that permeates all three stories. Huff!! What's the symbolism? The dagger had more symbolism.

Then you have the religious overtones which lead to a dead end. Inquisition? Not a good time to challenge Heavenly Father but, shoot, let's go for it!"

The imagery of "buddha" at the end? Does that mean Xtianity is dead by then?

It's a story of narcissism. A depraved attempt to extend one's existence for the sake of self & for a loved one without utter regard of consequence, (and I don't even know what that third/future part was meant to explain)

The road to immortality ends in the afterlife?

What a sham!!!

EDIT: I had a better and more thought-provoking time writing this critique than watching the movie. Go figure....

Woman: "Can we watch something else?"
Man: "No, I want to see how this ends."

BenGay, you're obviously not even interested in being interested in this movie so I don't know why you take the time out of your clearly humdrum life to write a review of the film which isn't even superficial. You didn't take the time to actually watch the movie. Maybe you have issues with attention span, as your diatribe clearly indicates.

The words you use to describe the film don't even apply and your writing is so filled with errors it cannot be taken seriously. You don't even get the names right. You would fail a multiple choice test on The Fountain because you didn't pay attention. Also, the movie is not two hours but 90 minutes. For some odd reason the people who criticize the film constantly claim it is two hours or more.

The Fountain may be Hugh Jackman's best performance and Aronofsky's best film. Aronofsky is no chump. You clearly are. Take a walk.
