honestly, i never thought de niro would be him. but at first i thought the next door neighbor was, when he first met emily and how she smiled at him and everything. i thought he would end up being charlie. and being that they never showed him much after, i was saying what would be the point of showing the next door neighbors to begin with? it wouldnt make much sense if they had to do with emily, which i thought the man next door did but apparently didnt

im not sure why a lot of people didnt like this movie. i thought it was very good and better than expected to tell you the truth.

I knew quite early on this was a case of DID (split personality) although I wasn't sure who it was. I thought it was Emily, although of course, it made sense it was the father, since every seizure he had resulted in a memory loss or impression of sleeping.

I thought of the neighbor, I thought it was herself, I thought it was the neighbor's dead child, I thought it was the sheriff, the realtor (who we lurking around late at night and had some flimsy sounding excuse), I did think of a demonic presence. I never once considered the father. How did he do that to the doll? Amy gave her that doll and she sat there and did it right there, there was no way that he could have done that.

In the film, the director (or scriptwriter) threw tons of red herrings at the viewers. Almost all people they met in the community were creepy - their neighbors, the cop, the real estate agent. Their neighbors, in particular, were so obvious suspects that I was sure that they were not the villains. I had thought of Elizabeth, for her presence seemed to be unexplained. Also, why should she be attracted to a man who was more than twenty years older and having an apparently psychotic daughter? I did think of a supernatural explanation (along the lines of The Sixth Sense). I once even suspected the cat, since it looked creepy too and was always around when something bad was happening!

After saying all this, no one should be surprised by the ending if he had watched Secret Window, only that the ending here made even less sense. As other posters here have pointed out, even if the events were seen from David's perspective, there were certain things in the film he could not have done - unless it was to be assumed that the viewers were having delusions too! (But in the case of the doll, the intended interpretation was that it was the daughter, and not the father, who defaced it - she was also mentally-disturbed).

I assumed Charlie WAS an imaginary friend, and Emily was doing everythin because she was a crazy, creepy girl. I knew that would be too obvious, so it was probably not her, but I didn't have any other leads.

I called it pretty early on...had a feeling it was a dual personality "thing"...

dumb movie with a twist that could've been revealed better. 4/10 mainly for great performances.

When I first saw it, I thought possibly Emily could have a "Charlie" personality until Elizabeth got pushed out the window, then possibly it was supernatural or something because I didn't know if it was a horror movie or supernatural or what. But I didn't suspect DeNiro as being Charlie mostly because of who he is (as an actor, I mean) so it was a surpise and I like to be surprised by movies, in a good way. Did not expect to see DeNiro going after his own little girl with a big knife!

I've already seen the worst movie ever made, so it can only be uphill from there.

I had recently seen Secret Window and figured that it was the father from the beginning, just became of the parallels in the 2 movies.

im not being negative towards anyone here. but to say that u thought the next door neighbour was charlie is weird. admitted that plot was to throw our detective minds off the scent. but even i knew (felt sorry for in some cases) that the next door neighbour was just grieving for his dead daughter. i think she died from some sort of cancer. coz the foto we see de niro looking at quickly clearly shows them holding her with bald head. and also i swear this is a picture of dakota or someone related to her in real life. he just couldnt settle with the fact that de niros daughter had an uncanny resemblence to his own. thus he really wanted to see her. also - i honestly beleived that it was some kinda supernatural ghostly being. i thought it was the reincarnated spirit of his wife. until the affair scene.

I thought it was Emily until the pushing Elizabeth out the window thing. But when Emily drew the picture of that scene I thought "Charlie" looked like David so thats when I caught on.

I thought it was first, Emily with a split personality. Then I thought it was some kid who had died in their house. I was slow to get that it was David. Lol.

I knew it was DeNiro halfway through because there were no other explanations for the flashbacks. His character seemed put together but the waking up the same time of night and the type of flashbacks he had equals unstable.

I just tought it was Emily! AMAZING ending finding out it was her father the whole time and that Emily knew and was trying to tell him through her pictures!
