I don't get it

Bond's boss, played by Judi Densch, said she recently promoted him to 00 (007) status. But this is 2006. James Bond had already been 007 for 40 years and at least 2 other actors. Was he demoted at some point?

You’re living in an era where Spiderman origin stories have been rebooted and retold several times over. Likewise Superman....likewise Batman......

Please tell me you’re kidding.

Yea when a movie opens up with a gaping huge plot hole, its never a good sign. 2 films prior, Bond rescued her from that womans house and in the last film, she traded a prisoner for Bonds release in North Korea. Then in this film, shes complaining that he wasn't ready for his 00 status in the beginning

reply

In 2006, Bond was rebooted and went back 44 years to the start. I hated this decision. It's like all the Bond movies that went before were erazed from record and yet, oddly, Dench is still there.

reply

To add to the confusion, Dench’s M is supposed to be a different person from the M she played in Brosnan’s films

Thanks for clarifying

Bond movies have never been big on continuity. Screw it.

reply

It's not as if they hadn't pulled something like that before.

In On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Blofeld doesn't recognise Bond, even though they met in You Only Live Twice. In Diamonds Are Forever, Charles Gray is Blofeld even though he was a British operative in YOLT. In The Living Daylights, Timothy Dalton's Bond encounters yet another actor playing Felix Leiter, and then the one in his next film, Liicence To Kill, it's the same actor who played Felix with Roger Moore in Live and Let Die.

If you're watching Bond films for continuity, you're doing it wrong. From Dr. No to YOLT it was pretty good, and then it was basically "Ah fuck it".

reply

'At least 2 other actors'? Which of the other three are you missing out?

Anyway, new start. Reboot. Bond begins. None of the other stuff ever happened to this Bond.

reply

People who write stories and make movies just do whatever the fuck they want sometimes whether members of the public think it makes sense or not, they don't care if you get it or not, and there's nothing you can do about it.
