Kristen Stewart's ACTUALLY a good actress

I mean before Twilight, that was *beep* She does a good job at playing this role, but it astounds me how much she overacts in Twilight compared to this. WHY DON'T PEOPLE WATCH THIS MOVIE INSTEAD OF TWILIGHT?! ok, im not here to bash it, but Twilight fans who only watched this coz of Kristen Stewart, god..

I am not a fan of twilight either, but I think she played bella very well in twilight, but, it doesn't matter how good she was because the character she had to play was utterly boring and written very badly

but I agree, she is wonderful in this film, very believeable.

reply

I agree. There's only so much you can do when there's not much to the character. Bella is masochistic and needy, and that's about all there seems to be to her. A bad script, I think, can make for poor acting. It could also have to do with the director. I'm not sure that I've seen anything else by the director, though.

reply

I've never seen twilight... but i agree that she was really good in this movie. =]

reply

I agree. I liked Kristen a lot better in this movie than I did in Twilight. I generally hated Twilight altogether - but this movie was really good and had a good theme to it. Kristen did a great job in this, and she was exactly how I had pictured Melinda when I was reading the book "Speak". I actually went to see Twilight just for her and was disappointed. But the awful acting in Twilight might not totally be her fault, the movie was horribly written in the first place.

Im quite surprised. I thought she was absolutely fantastic in this...what a shame she's doing the twilight crap now and not something meaningful.

reply

I know! I was hoping that she'd go on to be a great star after "Speak", but "Twilight" was total *beep* in my opinion. She didn't really seem to like Twilight that much, herself.

Not a big Twilight fan, didn't think it was that great, but I believe New Moon will be outstanding. The clips that have been released and the trailers are incredible! As for "she didn't seem to like Twilight that much, herself"? After she read the script she called and begged to be a part of it, and then was involved in every aspect of it; including casting the other characters. She has given countless interviews about how important she thinks the story is and how deep it can be. Kristen doesn't do movies that she thinks are a waste or pointless, she only takes roles she says she can't imagine NOT taking, "it's like being in an unconsumated relationship!"

Twilight was not great. Catherine Hardwicke is ADHD and the entire film was very sporadic and somewhat rushed according to the cast. However, Catherine gave us a lot of good things; no cliche vampire elements, good actors, etc. If Kristen overacted it is because she was told to. Place blame where blame is due. I mean, watch Speak with the commentary and listen to what the director says and did while filming...very different.

I hated her acting in twilight, though I will blame the director. If you have a bad director you cannot act to the best of your abilities. Though in this film, which I sadly watched after Twilight as I didn't know they had made a film of the book (which i've read quite a few times and loved)

Anyway her acting in this film is great, I think she played Melinda really well considering her age.

Don't blame the director, blame the source material.

The Twilight series is the most contrived of stories made up of characters that are no more than cardboard cutouts.

And it's ruining the reputation of talented actors like Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson, who are becoming nothing more than wank material and victims of stalking by teenage girls and the press.

reply

I can't really blame the source material as I am a fan of the books, though I still cannot understand why as I hate the films and constantly critasise the writting, but I will agree it is ruinnign the rep of good actors. I've been a fan of Rob's work since he did Goblet of Fire in 2004, I watcehd all the dramas he did for the BBC and ITV and tohught his acting was brilliant and I've seen Kristen and severl of the other actors in films before and commmented on thier good acting.

In this case I do blame moviemakers. Twilight is a fairytale, naive but breathtaking story, and movies are simply stupid (maybe except first and last two).

reply

yep, I actually think this was her best performance to date, imo.

reply

I didn't mind Kristen in Twilight & New Moon, but I finally got around to watching Speak tonight and absolutely bawled my eyes out. I was extremely impressed by her performance and although I am a fan of the Twilight story, this by far surpasses. She really is talented!

reply

She is really good at playing troubled, sensitive, non-conformist teenagers, maybe some sweet romantic roles, but I can't see her extending much than that. With all my respect and love for Kristen, her range is limited, at least for now... She does have her own style, but good acting is not always being yourselves - it's the ability to be somebody else... I'm afraid she will get stuck at some point of her career, and Twilight has proved this. In T., the role was quite easy, and she could have delivered it with more lightness and more emotions, not that sullen thoughtful expression. So, I believe she can only be good in a role which is similar to herself.

I just read Speak for the first time and now I really want to see the movie. I love the Twilight books, love the actors, but I do agree that the movies aren't masterpieces. But enjoyable anyway. It's hard to make a masterpiece if you can't change the book too much, because otherwise you'll have the fans on your trail screaming murder. And just translating a book into a film without any changes can only turn into a mediocre film.

I love Kristen Stewart and have watched many of her other films. Her performance in Cake Eaters blew me away, that was awesome and absolutely believable. Am looking forward to this one!

The twilight series is below standard of the hype, I was very unimpressed.

She's a decent actress.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kristin Stewart but if you notice things about her such as scenes where crying would be required, she puts her head in her hands and lets out a scream to compensate. I noticed this also in "Twilight" and "New Moon" that she is quite limited in her acting but she's excellent at being "moody", so they play to her strengths.

I feel like she CAN act, she just doesn't try or seem to care when it comes to Twilight. I remember when it was first being filmed I saw an interview with her and the way she spoke about it made it seem like she thought it was the stupidest thing in the world, so I always kind of thought she just didn't give an effort for it haha.
