I think its a generation thing

I'm 19, this came out while I was 14 or 15 I think. I've noticed that my generation seems to love this movie and prefer it to the original, and the generations in front of us seem to loathe this movie. I think part of it depends on how much you love the original.

I'm a huge horror fan, and I respect and appreciate the original for being such an important movie for the genre. But I find it kind of corny and boring.

and this one definitely isn't perfect, theres a few things I hate about it
-too many of the characters talk the same. too much cursing
-some of the violence is unnecessarily graphic
-I thought the rape scene was pointless, and it was just added to be shocking

but overall, I LOVE this one and actually prefer it to the original, just my opinion. But I definitely think its a generation thing.

If that is so, your generation is stupid.

One might think the same thing of your generation given your own comments. Can't you be more constructive or elaborate in your criticism?

"He came home." - Dr. Sam Loomis from the original HalloweeN

could be. i'm 35 and i hate this remake. but i liked the friday the 13th, sorority row, and bloody valentine remakes. i just felt that rob zombie didn't quite understand what was scary/suspensful about the first one. you actually have to present characters that you don't necessarily want to see get knifed. the Shape in this movie seemed to be putting a lot of people out of their collective misery.

I was 13 and a half when this movie came out, but never saw it until a year later because I never cared for the Horror genre back in 2007. This movie had me on the edge of my seat when I first saw it, and made me visit the classic franchise which I proudly own as the recent collector's set of Halloween. That being said, I prefer the original, because it was more of a psychological thriller and relied on suspense, lighting, and little to no blood, and it was still frightening. I appreciate Rob's remake, because he made Michael the way he personally envisioned him, and is the reason I'm a die-hard horror fan. I think it depends on what you personally enjoy in a horror movie to decide between the two.

Don't you know history repeats itself? Hmm Sid?- Scream 2

The original is definitely a little dated and creaky at times but the core of it is as solid as ever. It's the craft of it. Carpenter pretty much created this type of movie and did it as good as it gets first time around. He understood how to keep people on their toes by hinting at things and letting your mind fill in the gaps and look for what might or might not be there. It deserves to go down in film history as a significant, important movie, not just in the horror genre. It's not meant to be judged based on story or acting performances or characters. It's a cheap B movie. What it excels in and what makes it a great film is how it handles tension and suspense. There aren't many films that have ever done it so well.
The remake is just another gorey slasher flick in a long line of gorey slasher flicks. It's impact will be zero just as it should be.

I don't think its a generational "thing" at all. It's education about filmmaking. Zombie is a hack. He is sloppy. He has some good ideas, but they are overpowered by amateur filmmaking. Carpenter basically created the genre as it exists today-every shot, every moment on a shoestring budget- it's pure magic.
