Who else found this movie annoying?

The way the film was directed was annoying. It seemed to be a try hard attempt to confuse the audience, the special effects were cheap and over the top, I got the impression that the director just wanted to be David Lynch (surreal) or Michel Gondry (camera trickery)

Why does everyone love this film? The story wasn't too bad, and at best I was interested throughout - but everything about the way this film was directed/photographed was ANNOYING

Here are some responses you may choose from:
- I agree
- Why don't you stick to Disney films?
- This film was really deep/good and you are to shallow/stupid to understand it
- How old are you, like, 12?

reply

I too came away thinking it held my interest, but it was way too stylized, pretentious even.

Enjoyed it, but would have enjoyed it more without the in-your-face look-at-me technique.

I agree!

I tolerated the film until I realized what it was, then it just made me angry.

"...the young man would love it too, but he can't afford it."

I didn't get any of it at first, but I don't like trying to figure out those psycho-thrillers, it ruins the suprise.
I personally loved it, but I can see where you come from. The ending is pretty overdone,so I only watch a select few of those thrillers so I can appreciate the good ones.
Hell, I didn't even UNDERSTAND the ending at first.
Works better if you're open minded while watching these type of movies.

LOL.

Halfway through, I started to think Ewan is imagining everything and that Ryan was actually just a projection of himself - kind of like Fight Club. When I realized that's what it was, I started to get annoyed and found myself thinking, "geez, a FC rip-off. Great. I really hope they do more with this..."

You had the repeating timelines, foretelling the future, the dead parents who weren't really dead, the blind guy that can see again, etc., etc., etc. All very weird stuff, but how is it all supposed to make sense? OK, well, it looks like they're doing more than FC because FC wasn't nearly as 'weird'. What does all this weirdness mean, I wondered?

It was a ****ing dream. Are you ****ing ****ting me??! That's how you 'explain' things? Lame... cop... out.

I am so tired of these movies. I am even more tired of people with IQ's of about 10 coming on the board to tell me that if I didn't like it it's because I didn't understand it. Of course I didn't understand it. There is nothing to understand! Oh wait, you mean I didn't understand it's a stupid dream? Oh yes, I got that just fine. The difference is, I'm smart enough to expect more from a movie. Yes, believe it or not, that was not mentally challenging, even if it was for you.

My disappointment at thinking it was going to be a FC rip-off was hugely eclipsed by the real disappointment I experienced when I found out how they actually ended it.

Pathetic.

I find it amusing that a person thinks they can dissect or presume they understand the lengths and bounds of what another considers a dream, alternate reality or state of being. Directing skills are tossed out the door at this point and to criticize someone for making a "bad dream" is absolutely laughable.

Perhaps you dream that you're King Arthur and a neat little package, tightly directed by your mind's eye on a consistent basis; consistent with what people would like to see on the big screen. Go be a director then.

What if others dream of Giger landscapes, surrounded by blood-soaked deer prancing on human feet surrounded by blue slugs? Their assailants are people who have wronged them in their real life. Their lovers are their mothers, their mothers are their lovers. Dreams are nightmares.

Because you do not "like" the movie does not make it pretentious, badly directed or badly written ... it means you didn't like it. End of story.

Sheep enjoy coming onto message boards and pretending to be art critics. You are not a Disney watcher, you are simply sheep.

Baaaahhhh.

I've patrolled these boards long enough always surprised by masses of viewers that inevitably complain, "It's all a dream sequence making the whole movie pointless." Enough. Does morality exist in dreams? Does emotion not exist in dreams. Does choice not exist in dreams? And with this film, it is even more pertinent to ask these questions. While you were complaining on forums, you may have missed vital information and failed to see the relevance of say the Buddhist philosophy that whole worlds exist inside of dreams with real people with consciousness. There are many hints throughout the movie that the events actually came to pass.
-The reference to Buddhism. The dream-within-a-dream sort of philosophy.
-Lila struggling for her existence at the end when she seems to realize she's in a dream
-The flashbacks of the dreams at the end when Lila and Sam were chatting in "reality."
-Perspectives from random characters throughout the movie sort of indicating that they have their own, unique perspectives that are not Henry's necessarily.
Dreams still have characters, plots, implications of morality and psychology etc. My advice is to stop existing as walking cliches with tired complaints of movies and analyze everything as if you had never encountered anything like it before.

"Director" Marc Forster -- a total know-nothing. The Krauts should stick with film financing, not film directing, bitte.

Could not watch all through that garbage 'Quantum of Solace' fake Jimmy Bond garbage film of his, either. That was also so painful in its ineptness. So is this one. Pure, unadulterated garbage. We picked it up at our local library, so it did not cost us anything ti watch it. And still, we could only watch some 45 minutes of it before all three of us fell off the sofa in pure boredom and disbelief.

Nothing at all is happening in this so-called "movie." The script is not worth two bits and a ripe apple. There are three main players, and we had found that we did not give a flying hoot about either of them. One was more annoying and boring than the other. We figured what must have happened, some clueless "writer" was trying to rip-off other similar thrillers, but then nothing that made any sense could be pieced together from the stolen parts. Hard to believe that something this abysmal actually has a "director." Then again, one can always count on *beep* Forster to deliver absolutely nothing. They should have let the grip dept. direct it instead of that bozo, it would have been probably better.

We kept watching and waiting forr something to happen, anything. But nothing ever did. And we did not care one hoot about any of the boring characters wasting someone else's money here, either. Nothing to recommend here, a total blow-out. Incredible that something this sickeningly bad actually finds distribution.

I will never watch another 007 movie after the 'Quantum of Solace" hell, and I will never watch as much as 45 seconds of another Marc Forster "movie." The guy simply hasn't got a clue. Herr Direktor, indeed.

What did he do, steal your girlfriend? Or was it a boyfriend, Barbra lover?

Perhaps you just don't have dreams like this? This entire movie reminded me of my weirdest dreams. How they look, how they feel, how they "behave".

I am a fan of very great and well done movies, this being one of them.
Judging by the way you opened your post, and how everyone like you agreed... It would not be very smart for me to give you my "opinion" on something that would be a waste of words and explanation to you and your followers.
But as it is much easier, I will give you my opinion on what I think about you and your followers.

The opinion is that:
You, good sir, are an idiot. Maybe I should say Shepherd, because not only are you an idiot, but your sheeple are too.

OK so i saw The Three of life and November yesterday. Both movies are comparable to Stay, in fact it was November that lead me to Stay. Why i hated TOL, though November was average and thought Stay was great was because it was smart about it. The actions of characters and its ending goes to a finish that makes sense. Just like the story of Keyzer Soze.
So thats why I like it. you dont have to like it. i understand how it can seem annoying to people that like other type of movies and theres nothing wrong with that.
