Why cant foreigners make Films in English ?

After recently seeing this movie I would like to say that it had some good scenes and the actor who played hitler was great but what offended me to no ends is what was the language(I know it was germany related)but why not in the american language-English?

This fact bothered me so much that I gave it a 2/10,as I said...the only redemption was hitler.
The action scenes were poor or hardly present(compare it to saving private ryan's action!!!)
Dont you think that making it in english would have benefited the producers and the film itself what with a wider release and better Box office?
I do not think there are any americans on this board because no one must have heard of it(european film for europeans) but making this in english would have proved beneficial to the film

I think people are a bit harsh. He is not necessarily a troll, but just someone young and maybe naive. How many of us as youngsters had a taste for foreign movies? If it's not American, it's not good, right? As I got older, I thought dubs were comical. Movies need to be in there original language for authenticity.
I don't ever want to see a historical movie where Hitler, Stalin, Mao Tsu Tung, etc. are speaking perfect English. How ridiculous would that be?

But if the OP is someone in his 20's or 30's then he deserves all the ridicule because that means he has the attention span of a child. Reading is fundamental. LOL.

Oh crap, the original poster is from North Carolina.

Please stop embarrassing the state where I live!

Hint: Invent the profession called voice actor.
Very common and well paid in Europe.

I can only hope the OP is trolling, in order to get a perverted kick out of pissing people off. It pains me to consider that someone might actually be as stupid as the OP sounds.

I've just stumbled upon this movie and I'll be watching it as soon as possible. I think if this were an English-speaking movie it would lose authenticity and credibility. Not every movie is made with the intention of dominating the American box office. Obviously, the intent of this movie was to inform. And obviously, the world does not revolve around the U.S.

For what it's worth, I'm a white female middle class American in my early 30's living in the Midwest - lover of film and cinema of many genres. Some of my favorite movies are subtitled. Please don't associate the ignorant words of this kid/troll/uninformed whatever with all of us. Incidentally, I was also disappointed in Valkyrie. When I stumbled upon some documentaries on TV about Claus Von Stauffenberg and the July 20 Plot I was very intrigued and thought maybe I should finally give Tom Cruise's film a shot. I was wrong. I was very unimpressed.

While I was astounded at the OP's posts and viewpoints, I also noticed something else a little unsettling about this whole thread (and much of the Internet community as a whole) - intolerance. If there was ever one word to explain the motives and actions of the Nazi Germany, I believe Intolerance is it. Let us not forget that.

And at the possibility that the OP is a troll, he did his job well as he elicited some very powerful emotions and responses and started one of the longest threads I've ever read here. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone his activity, as I don't have much tolerance for trolls myself, ironically.

Why the should they (the Germans) do that?
There are some 100 Million people whose everyday language is German. They have no incentive to make films in English - no more than in Swahili, at least.
And if Yanks won't give'em a Prize just because of that - I know what the Fritzes will say about that....

I take the totally opposite view. These events happened in Germany and the historical figures spoke German during the events. The film was produced, funded and made in Germany and had a largely German cast. Why should they have made it english? Would the Americans ever make a movie about say - the American Revolution and have the cast speak German? No. Why? Because itd make absolutely no sense. Personally I find it really annoying when I watch a movie taking place in another country at another time in english when it is well known that they didnt speak english there. Its totally fake. It annoyed me to no end that Valkyrie was in english and that Stauffenberg had an American accent as he was played by Tom Cruise.

I'll take the authentic language any day over english - unless english is the language for that particular story.

reply

why should they?
There are some one hundred million German speakers (that is their everyday language!).
If other people wanna watch German films they either will have to learn German (it is not at difficult as many people want to believe!) - or to live with subtitles
I see no reason why the Germans should give in to people who think that English is the only decent language for a film. Ask the French if they have another opion..... ;-)
(that is another way to learn a language - I cab assure you: I have grown uo with German TV and even today I understand German much better than I speak it)
