Why does everyone hate this?
I might be wrong but I watched this years ago on a plane and I liked it. It has that Me, You, and Everyone You know quality. But what are some negatives?
I am talking to you Jedediah, you're fired.

I love this movie. I tell everyone to watch it. Maybe half of them like it. The other half don't get it, or were distracted by the profanity or the muddy sex scene. I don't really care if people like it. I tell people to watch it because of my favorite scene: when Albert and Marky Mark go to the evangelical Christian home. Every single line is like gold. The Tommy Corn character is my hero — the very definition of a fanatic: he can't change his mind and won't change the subject. "What happens in the meadow at dusk? Everything! Nothing!"
shareI loved this film and think it is one of the best films made in the last 20 years. The actors were so alive and the characters while quirky had a very lived-in feel. I relished every moment and would not part with it for a mil.
shareBecause people have different tastes? I was going to say that people are ignorant but then that would be possibly condescending and what I wanted to say is that this could be the best movie that I've ever seen. I love every aspect of it from Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin, to Albert and Marky Mark, from the How am I not being me to the ball at the end that is their only solace--a brief moment wherein the brain escapes from conscious reality. It's probably the best movie ever.
sharesimple answer:
Because people rejected the happy world matrix.
They want suffering.
Give them the meaning of life, and it won't be good enough.
Simple as that.
The basic reason why most of the people who hated this movie is simply because they didn't understand it.
Some people go to the movie theater or Blockbuster with the mentality that movies are meant to entertain them. When they are presented with a movie that is meant to make them think and ponder, they find it boring and meaningless. Specially in a comedy since sadly, most people have the idea that comedies are supposed to be goofy silly movies like Meet the Fockers, Not another teen movie, and the likes.
Life is precious, and it’s our own - not any god’s.
I love this movie because i'll never fully understand it, I've watched it several time, and with each watch I get more confused and change my mind on what I thought it was about. Not many movies have left me so puzzled and thinking so much. This is why many people hate, because it requires them to do some critical thinking.

I don't think it's that difficult to understand and I don't know if that's why some don't like it.
It's a very self-consciously quirky film and some people just don't like that kind of thing. In fact some films explore similar ideas, but those ideas are embedded more subtly. I personally really like it, but I understand that some don't.
Yeah people gotta support American films that try something different, but it's predictable this film will appeal to what the mainstream would see as hippies, layabouts and annoying too-clever-for-you academics and students, to them I say I haven't enjoyed a blockbuster since I turned 16.

Not everyone does.
It's the IMDB and those that want to trash films just post away, sometimes without even seeing the film!. And the nature of the boards is such that a new post will bump an old thread to the top, with the original title regardless of what the comments say.
That means that an original post titled "This Movie Sucks" with a 100 comments that say it doesn't, is going to appear at the top of the list. The reaction on this board is fairly mild when compared to some, so I can only guess the teens haven't bothered to watch it and post about it.
