Parker Posey should've been Lois.

Had more of the ideal look for the character, has far better comedic timing, and could've easily stepped into Margot Kidder's shoes.

Was it an age thing? I could get behind that, I mean Posey is more than a decade older than Routh and it kind of shows, still a wasted opportunity in my opinion but there's always voice work I guess, DC's always pushing out animated features I suppose Posey could voice Lois in something probably.

I would've preferred Amy Acker. I think she would've been awesome, and she's close to Routh's age.

If they were going to push the Richard Donner version of Superman then they should've gone with Rashida Jones as Lois. She actually kind of looks like a young Margot Kidder.

Just seen this movie for the first time and I thought exactly the same thing. I mean the MO of this film seems to be to emulate the Donner films and the casting is all pretty close to the performances given by the original cast...all except Lois Lane. Margot Kidder was plucky, feisty and had real spark. Parker posey would have been a far better choice, her or Courtney Cox.
Kate Bosworth's performance is bland, dull and lifeless. She's completely wooden and you can see her acting. The casting of her role is the missing element that would have made this film a worthy successor to thd Donner films.

they could've switched roles - Parker as the Kidder like Lois (she even looks like her like the way Routh looked like Reeve, and the fact she was older would tie in with STM - Kidder being older than Reeve, but also Superman probably wouldn't age as much as humans anyway so itd make sense for her to be an older Lois with a child after Superman had disappeared for years) and then Bosworth as Kitty (younger Miss Techmarker type) with Lex having taken her under his wing/more of a father figure to her

[R171] agreed. I thought Routh was terrific in Superman Returns. He brought a sense of innocence like Reeve did but wasn't a direct copy. I blame both Singer and Spacey. They are both loathsome on their own but Space was completely over the top as Luthor and I thought Kate Bosworth was absolutely dreadful as Lois Lane. Talk about charisma-free. It might have worked better with Rachel McAdams as Lois. I did like Parker Posey, though. Posey and Routh saved that film for me.

lol what does a thrift store have to do with anything? so you saw the movie in one, doesn't mean that's the only place you can find the film. I've seen copies of it at Best Buy still as well as other places that sell movies from over the years.

I was just thinking this the other night!

In the original comics, Lois was a smart women, but she had bad taste. She liked "bad boys" thugs, and flashy people. That is why she liked Superman, but not Clark.

The deal with Clark is that he sees the good in her, but won't feed into the shallow stuff by presenting himself to her as Superman. He is waiting for her to like Clark.

She would have been great as a smart woman of quality that has a casual nasty side.

Parker Posey could've been Lois in this movie instead of Kate Bosworth, who was miscast as Lois, she was too young 22 years old at the time and has none of the elements that other actresses brought to the character, she doesn't have the big dark eyes that Margot Kidder, Teri Hatcher or Erica Durance and she doesn't have the tough edge that they have.
