I've been hearing comments that this movie is for "old people". I guess that's because most of the actors are older, but still. Like, I'm 15 and I loved it. Partly because Jeremy Irons is my idol. So how old was everyone when they saw it?

I think it is a classic storyline but so enjoyable as to the actors performing.
I know the reality of 1938 was that life was hard for the majority, however, it is so pretty to watch. The clothes, the autos, the everything. While I always thought I would like to have lived then, I know that TODAY is the greatest place to be alive.
I'm 25. I didn't expect to like this film (got sucked into seeing it at the last minute), but I really did. The acting was great, so was the scenery. I'm also a guy, and I would honestly reccomend it to any of my 25 year old friends. :)
shareI'm 44 and the only reason I saw it was because Annette Bening got the nomination. I didn't really expect to enjoy it but I really enjoyed the movie. I thought her performance was wonderful especially the final scene and would recommend it.
shareI also went out of my way to see the nominated performances for 2004, and saw this movie right before I saw Finding Neverland. The Oscars are so subjective, and it's hard for me to say whether I think this or Swank's performance in Million Dollar Baby was better. I think Swank's role was seen as braver, especially in 1999, although that is questionable since American Beauty was not a mainstream movie at all.
I was 44 when I saw this; I'm 45 now.

shareI am still angry several years later about her not getting the Oscar for this role. Hillary Swank with a bad Southern accent (I'm Southern and I know) couldn't even be in the same room with Bening when comparing the two!! I better stop before I get too worked up!

shareI know, don't fake southern accents just sound like chalk on a blackboard?! For example, I like Scott Bakula & NCIS so I try to watch NCIS New Orleans, but with that cast I just can't! (and, yes, I know the difference between "Southern" and "N'Orlens" accents)

Now, I've only seen the end of the movie, coincedintaly I'm watching the rest right now lol. But I have LOVED the parts I've seen :-D.

I saw it because of the nomination. And it finally came to our little city. I'm 36. I dragged Mom with me. She's 61. We both LOVED it. Every once in a while, I catch myself saying "T - O - M"

I'm 27 and loved the movie. This might be Benning's best performance. Better than her nominated performance in American Beauty for sure.

shareim 17 and thought it was fantastic, dont know why on earth ANYONE would hate it... although if you really want someone to love it, take them to the double bill at my local cinearts, they played a double feature of vera drake and being julia. the first of which was extremely slow plotwise, although great acting. but after that pace ANY movie was a kind release. (not to take away from the greatness of this movie tho...)
sharei'm 33 and i enjoyed this movie. i wouldn't say that it is strictly for old people at all. Many of the main characters are in their 20s or even younger. I WOULD say, however, that the movie is being marketed to an older, and more accurately a stuffier, crowd. And for that reason, the only reason I went to see this movie is because I wanted to see all of the movies up for major Academy Awards before Oscar night. I am now quite glad I did. This was a fun, romp of a movie about an aging actress and several people in her life who, ultimately, make the unfortunate mistake of underestimating herself.
It was a riot!
