Hi All - I'm just writing this to ask everyone who they were routing for Mirabelle to end up with. Despite Jeremey being a really quarky, enjoyable character who for every reason would be the better choice for Mirabelle, I still was routing for the relationship between her and Ray to prevale in the end. So I'm curious is it only me (who has a thing for older men) that wanted Ray & Mirabelle to be together, or if there were others.
I hated both really, but Jeremey bugged me to no end, i kept wanting him to die horribly. I haven't liked a think that actor is in and his character seemed like he would have dead people in his apartment. I really wanted her to not be with either of those idiots, she could do much better.
Jeremy all the way. I felt bad for Ray, because it seemed really hard if not impossible for him to open up to anyone, but he often came across as cold and bitter. Jeremy was a freak no doubt, but absolutely genuine, and I could tell that he truly loved Mirabelle and in the end had no problems expressing it. I love the final scene where Mirabelle is walking away from Ray back toward the art gallery and Jeremy is standing there with his arms wide open waiting for her. That's pretty much the whole reason why he's the one summed up in a single shot. Plus, like geckoriot, I love Jason Schwartzman ;)
"You have a freak flag ... you just don't fly it."
MagpieMom, You're right. A little too much of a turnaround considering how clueless Jeremy was before he went on the road with the band. It's a bit of stretch to suggest all those self-help books and CDs would turn his life around completely, but that's how it was in the book. A little unrealistic, but hey, it's only a movie! :-) LOL
I loved Jeremy. Sure he was a little out of it sometimes and unhygenic but he was so sweet and cute and caring. He really cared for Mirabelle. I wish I had someone like him.....well except for the Jiffy Baggy thing. LOL. Ew! lol
Now I've got something I want to protect. It's you. -Howl
i just watched this movie on DVD. i'd read the book, so i knew Ray didn't get the girl, but during the movie i found mysef wishing he would pull through. yeah, i have a thing for older men, and yeah, i'd like to see a may-december romance in a movie. you'd think 50 was dead or something.
Lil Lamb, I know! Martin still looks well-preserved for 61, I think. The only other movie I can think of that comes close to a May-December romance that works out is Murphy's Romance starring James Garner and Sally Field.
No. I wasn't routing for him at all. He wasn't honest with her. He just thought he was.........(remember that scene with his therapist? or who ever that was). He was saying things, that were not shared with Mirabelle. oh well.... it's just a movie :-)
