Philip Seymour Hoffman = Greatest Villain Ever

I mean that. For the very first i was really kinda scared of a villain in an action movie. You know, all the bad guys in this sort of movies have been some people laughing evily in the camera and stuff. But when PTH tells Mr. Cruise that he would kill Cruise' dearest, i really believed it.

What's amusing is that I watched this film after seeing 'Ghost Protocol' and had low expectations for the villain ('Ghost Protocol', though a wonderfully entertaining film, had a terminally dull main villain). I then see what has to be one of the most effective opening sequences I have ever seen (not among the caliber of 'The Dark Knight' bank robbery or the 'Godfather' consultation, but certainly close on the heals of it) utterly championed by a magnetic Philip Seymour Hoffman. I mean, good Lord, Hoffman is a god!

I agree, he didn't get much screentime but holy hell he was deliciously evil. I actually feared his character, because Davian DOESN'T *beep* AROUND. If he says he is going to do it, he'll do it, no villain monologue, no being stupid.

Exactly. This is one of the few times where the villain doesn't fool around or waste any time is pointless speeches, Davian was a man of action and he didn't hesitate.

Seymour Hoffman really nailed it, without a doubt my fave villain in the Mission Impossible franchise. He should've had more screen time :-)

100000000000000% agree. He was fantastic. Amazing actor. Created a really unique and refreshing villain character. No unnecessary dramatics; he was just real.

Wrong. He was pretty lame IMO. Most of the time you see him, he's getting smacked around. What a pussy.

reply

I agree, it was an impressive performance. More so because he really didn't have many lines to say or much screen time.

I actually found his character a bit boring. He underplayed a bit and could have put more of a "razor edge" to the guy's personality if you get my meaning. He did a decent job imposing his presence onscreen but the overall impression came across as somewhat watered-down. A few more cruel grins and glaring at the camera would have made him look even more real.

I cannot take your post as anything other than sarcasm. Right?

I agree. And what he did to Lindsey Farris was extremely evil. That was his most evil action. By the way do you think that Davian was more evil than the Joker?

reply

I would'n say as "evil" as the joker, but Davian was more realistic und believably menacing.

I agree. By the way did he really kill Lindsey for fun?

I agree. By the way who was more evil? Davian or Wah Sing Ku from Lethal Weapon 4?
