My #1 All-Time best western is "True Grit". Nothing else is even close to it in my mind. There are some great westerns but this is head and shoulders above them to me.
The rest of the top 5 would be almost impossible to put in order so here are some I love in no particular order: "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", "Tombstone", "The Outlaw Josey Wales", "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "The Sons of Katie Elder", "The Unforgiven", "Young Guns 1 & 2" and "Open Range"
Unforgiven ( 1992 ) Broken Trail ( Mini-Series) Open Range The Magnificent Seven ( 1960) Seraphim Falls
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
The Proposition ( 2006) Lonesome Dove and it's spin-offs The Long Riders ( 1980) The Wild Bunch Wyatt Earp ( 1994) Geronimo: An American Legend ( 1993) Tombstone The Last of the Dogmen Johnson County War ( 2002 Mini-Series ) Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford ( 2007) Young Guns 1 & 2 Posse ( 1993) Silverado All the Pretty Horses Bandidas ( 2005) Shanghai Noon Shanghai Knights Extreme Prejudice ( 1987) Lone Star ( 1996) Jesse James ( 1939) Any random Sergio Leone or John Wayne Western 3:10 to Yuma ( 2007) Brokeback Mountain * Midnight Cowboy *
* I'm joking about the last two titles.
I want a Lawyer! I want a Doctor! I want a cheese sandwish!
