wow......anyone that puts this piece of crap movie in their Top 5 must have only SEEN 5 movies. I'm not even joking. It was an embarrassment that only Kevin Costner is capable of. How could any of the actors read those lines with a straight face? Total cornball garbage. Lame.

Loved Open Range. The characters of Boss and Charlie played off one another perfectly, in my opinion. If there was one thing that didn't quite ring true about the film it would be this: no way a beautiful woman like Sue would have stayed single for so many years prior to Charlie coming in to her life.

You're right, no human being would stack books like this.

Have to agree with this whole-heartedly. Open Range suffered from flat characters and horrid dialogue. There are people think that Costner was good in this movie but honestly just about anyone could have pulled of such a crap of a character.

Overall, I found the movie a bit of a disappointment. While the story was powerful enough, the writing simply fell short. There were only outlines of characters, nothing substantial or memorable. Duvall is indeed a fine actor, and one who has proven himself time and again in the western genre (most notably Lonesome Dove). But not even he could compensate for the poor writing of this film. And Costner? A competent actor but certainly nothing to write home about.

I really can't believe you fellows think Open Range was a good movie. It was horrible.

Here are some of my favourite westerns: High Plains Drifter; For a few dollars more; The good, the bad and the ulgy; Lonsome Dove: The Outlaw Years; The Searchers; Once Upon a time in the west; The Man who shot Liberty Valance.

There are a lot of westerns I like which I can't remember the titles of.

Not saying ur wrong, but how could you have a lonesome Dove sequel, and not Lonesome Dove on your list. Lonesome Dove in itself is one of, if not the best, western of all time.

You know all these movie lists are great except most of the time its the same movies time and again. What I'd like to see is a western film list that has something I haven't seen before. I live in England and love the western genre, I'm even a member of a living history group (and before you ask, no I'm not over 50 and I don't have a long beard. let's face it most of them are). I'm a 25 year old lover of western movies. Unfortunatly it's also always the same westerns on TV. Heres a short list of westerns that I have been told are great but have never seen due to the fact that they never shown it on TV and haven't released it on DVD here:
