"The Grifters was a horrible movie, nothings happens at all no action, no exitment and no suspence. No not very interesting. Unfortunatley there aren`t many good con films out there. You HAVE seen them all...Oh, wait, there`s "Ocean`s Eleven" and "Italian Job"."

^^^^^LMAO Ah...the historic influence of MTV and Ritalin.

The Grifters
House of Games
The Spanish Prisoner
Shooting Fish
Confidence
The Sting
Matchstick Men

"I thought her a mere social climber, but now I see she's a mountineer." Mrs. Sedley

Employee of the Month. not the one with dane cook, i forgot whos in it, but its a pretty good con movie..if you wanna call it one.

"The Usual Suspects" (1995), an all-star cast; and "The Saint" (1997). Couldn't think of anything better than these two.

reply

these two brit flicks fit within the loose meaning of con i think:

two way stretch,
comedy/heist
peter sellers 'dodger' tries to pull off a heist while still stuck in prison. i haven't seen this in a long time, and it's probably pretty dated, but it's certainly a classic,

51st state
double dealing/con
can't remember the plot fully, again it's been a while, but it's been on the tv a coupla times, and i love anything with robert carlyle in it. also it's got samuel l jackson in a kilt!!

reply

Revolver, however a great, great film, is in no way a con movie.

and Thank You to whoever mentioned The Talented Mr. Ripley, i must watch that again. Excellent film, as i remember.

Check the start and end dates on this thread...pretty impressive!
I didn't have the patience to read the whole damn thing, but I never saw any mention of one of the grand-daddies of Con Movies: Topkapi. (Melina Merkouri and a terrific Peter Ustinov). May be the ORIGINAL use of the acrobatic specialist thief descending by cable to make the "impossible" snatch. Definitely worth the rental.

Everybody wants money; that's why they call it MONEY!

reply

Topkapi is not a con movie, it's a heist movie. But I agree the movie is excellent and definitely a must-see in the genre.

The following, written and directed by christoper nolan, memento, Batman begins, the prestige, y'know the master of narrative, the guy who makes all the films you love. him. The following was his first and you might at first think it's boring but watch it all the way through to the end and you will love it.

How about "The Spanish Prisoner"? With Campbell Scott and Steve Martin in a dramatic role. This does not have as many layers and is also not as deep and intricate as the others, but it is interesting and also you get personally invested in the plot and the outcome.

Try "House of Games" by David Mamet. A small Masterpiece in het con-movie genre.

not that anyone will read this on page 10, but The Good Thief is a fantastic movie.
