I'm gonna with Amores Perros as well, even though I like both.
shareAmores perros is far better than crash. crash had no character development. sorry but if I want to watch a movie dealing with racism I will stick with Do the Right Thing.
shareI'd say Crash. I liked Amores Perros to a certain extent; it was really good until about the middle. I found myself looking at my watch and the model really pissed me off. I loved the first story though, and the third was alright. Although, I thought that Crash was a lot more intense, Amores Perros was just plain too hard to watch. There is a difference in intense and gripping vs. too hard to watch.
shareUh...Amores Perros. Duh.
You cannot find peace by avoiding life.
is this a joke?
Amores Perros is the BEST movie ever made
Over 100000 IMDb users says that "popeinnocentyears" is a jackass....
Wow. I just heard the same thing said over and over again- "AP is better because Crash has no character development."
You guys have to realize that Crash is not supposed to have an incredible amount of character development, because it's not about individual characters the way AP is. It's about the unhealthy demon of subverted racism that all of us have and most of us are unaware of. Most people believe racism is openly stating that you hate another race. But racism goes much deeper than that in a way in which everyone's fields of experience and conditioned stereotypes affect genuine interactions, and Crash did touch upon this.
And I don't even have a preference between the two. They are two different films about different things, both good, but when I see so many stale comments of the same opinion supporting AP I feel forced to play devil's advocate.
Also, there are stereotypes in AP just like in most movies. The typical a-hole brother in Ramiro, the jerk in Jarocho, and even el chivo as the lonely, remorseful father at parts. These were good characters, but people act like AP isn't subject to any criticism and that it's a "classic" or "the best film ever?" Neither AP nor Crash could be considered classic films yet. Significant time must pass in order to tell whether either is still relevant, only then is a film a proven classic. Not enough time has passed for either film.
Also, there could have been three distinct and separate films from AP. They were all different avenues of exploring the difficulties that love and relationships can cause. Yet, for all intensive purposes, the connection of the car crash between the three stories could have been left out and the film would still get its message across. People were saying that Crash's interconnected stories didn't mesh as well when those people clearly affected one another within the story. Again, two different techniques that can only barely be compared.
These are two good films which both moved me. I just saw one too many of the same basic comment, and you guys sounded like a choir preaching the exact same unqualified opinion. I don't care who likes which movie better, but at least give a just reason.
Amores Perros was much better IMO. I thought crash was a good movie, not great but good. No way it should have won best picture (as well as Million Dollar Baby) both good movies but not great. In Crash i thought it was a racially updated versian of Seinfeld. Being that I am hispanic and live in LA I thought it was a bad way to tackle racism. The acting was very good, I liked the scenes but they only glossed over the issues. Probably due to the fact that there is only so much u can put in a 2 hour movie. Which means things like character development and real issues were glossed over. It was a shame I thought it was a good start but could have been so much better. And Amores Perros is just a great movie, very well done!

For me, the significance of a film lies completely in how it resonates with the viewers; that is, not how you feel moment by moment while watching it, but what stayed with you when you left the theatre.
While watching Crash, I was struck minute by minute by good performances and well-written dialogue. Occasionally, as with the scene of Thandie Newton's rescue or the "really good cloak" scene, I felt genuinely moved. However, when I left the theatre, the structure of the film, when viewed as a whole, reminded me of "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels," just with a sanctimonious (if sometimes effective) anti-racism message instead of the ultra-violent subversive humor.
On the other hand, my minute by minute response to Amores Perros did not evaporate as the minutes passed. My shock over the violence against the dogs still lingers as an important message in the film. My empathy for the model's unjustly destroyed career stays with me, the hilarious possibilities of the shootout between the two tied-up men is still as funny as it is poignant, and the final image of the reformed but broken man walking across the field continually sticks in my throat.
Incidentally, the look of the films also had an effect. Whereas both stories have obviously gritty elements, Amores Perros was the only one which was willing to use gritty-looking film stock, sharp editing, and handheld camera work. Crash simply looked too clean for its subject matter; which is to say that the film used kid gloves visually that worked against the film's message.
Both films are about the interconnectedness of humankind, but whereas Crash is about hate, Amores Perros is about love. Without any fear of sounding sappy, I must say that the complexities of love are a much more powerful and enduring emotion than the obvious downsides to hate, whether everybody learns a neat little lesson or not.
Depends on what you like: a quality film with an important message, or a watered-down film with a great (albeit confused) message.
Amores Perros > Crash.
Amores Perros was twice the film Crash was, and much more original. I don't feel they have that much in common though except for intersecting storylines and a big cast.
shareAmores perros is way ahead of Crash. the intensity of A.P. is never found in crash. Crash was more like a caricature.
