This is better than 'Princess Mononoke'? Are you kidding me?!?

No way is this better than "Princess Mononoke" from the same studio.

"もののけ姫, mononoke hime" has a better, way more epic story, better characters and an amazing score.
I read several times that people think that the score of "Spirited Away" is annoying.

For me, "Princess Mononoke" will always be the best Studio Ghibli- and Hayao Miyazaki-film because it's stunning and made for young teenagers and adults, "Spirited Away" is a children's movie.

What do you think?

reply

Quite the opposite! I find Princess Mononoke a bit heavy-handed, and Spirited Away quite entrancing.
But hey, we all have our own favourites.

I love the "heavy handed" thing on Mononoke? Spirited Away is just ok. The animation is rich but the story is mehhh...

Totally agree, I never thought Spirited Away was that good. I liked Mononoke, Howl and Porco Rosso more. No matter how many times I see SA I just can't bring myself to like it as much as the majority does. It doesn't have the heart that those 3 have. I find Mononoke Hime to be the best animated film ever made.

Same here. I like SP and everything but Mononoke gives the feels that Spirited Way doesn't. It's kind if hard to explain. SP is also far from being the best animated movie I seen.

I prefer Spirited Away in that it is very subtle and very artful, and deep in its core very emotional. Watching it was like having a dream, and when it ended it felt like I was forced to wake up.

Beautifully said!

I prefer Spirited Away because of its complexity and depth in a relatively simple plot.
Mononoke is way more epic, but that doesn't automatically make the film better. That said, I hold Mononoke second of all the Studio Ghibli- and Hayao Miyazaki-films, so I think it deserves better than it got.

"Spirited Away" is a children's movie.
True, on a level, it is.

Previously Mononoke was my favourite Ghibli film, but now this has supplanted it. So, sorry...and no, I'm not kidding you. :)

You're comparing apples to oranges. Both movies are great for completely different reasons, and there's no point in saying one is better than the other.
