I went into this with high expectations and an open mind. Could not have been more disappointed. Bland story, average animation, forgettable characters. I guess you have to be a child when you first see this to be awed by such a run-of-the-mill production.

It is the most overrated movie amongst the films of Studio Ghibli though. It feels a bit like a "best of" of their earlier work. And it is good but not as great as many of those other films are. That is my opinion anyway.
I finally saw this for the first time, and frankly, though I've never been a big fan of ghibli...this might be my favorite of his films. And I'm kinda disappointed I've never seen it before.
Haven't seen too much of ghibli though so we'll see how I feel as I see more.
I saw this as a kid with my dad in theaters and really enjoyed it. He liked it even more than me I think. this is a beautiful film
