136 pounds = overweight?

In the movie didn't she say her weight was 136 pounds?

136 pounds = overweight?!

How tall is Briget supposed to be?

Renee Z the actress is 5'4 - a person at 5'4 and weighing 136 pounds is at a healthy/normal/ideal weight according to the Body Mass Index (http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/).

I was a little sad seeing Bridget be so upset at being 136 pounds because I'm exactly 136 pounds and my BMI is 22.6 (I'm 5'5). A healthy/normal/ideal BMI is between 18.5 - 24.9.

Your thoughts...

I agree there is nothing wrong with her weight. And according to the Body Mass Index she would only be overweight by two pounds.

The movie industry thinks that weighing about 100-115 is healthy! The sad part if many believe this including men and women have to deal with the pressure of being thin.

During the movie I didn't get what the big deal was about her weight , thought she looked perfectly fine to me.

Consider: Renee at Bridget weight vs. Renee at normal Renee weight

I know which I think looks better.

I just looked at those pics Princess_Mairi. What's going on with her legs in the left picture?? They look horrible. The tan doesn't really suit her either. She looks tons better in the right picture with more meat on her bones.

Renee looks fabulous in the photo on the right. The character of Bridget Jones, on the other hand, often looked frumpy not because of her weight per se but because of poorly fitting closthing, lank hair, and bad (or no) make-up on her splotchy face.

reply

In reality Renee was much heavier than the stated 136... probably pushing 150-155.

reply

As medicine_freak says earlier, Renee was much heavier than 136. When Bridget weighs herself at the beginning of the movie, even on the scales there she is heavier that 136. The scales go over 10 stone, which would make her at least 140, although admittedly that may not have been Renee on the scales. But that still makes the Bridget of the movie fatter than 136.

The truth is out there.

I loved Renee in this movie and I thought she looked just fine. But they made her look so dumpy in the sequel, what was going on with that hair!? And the clothes she was wearing in the sequel did nothing for her.

I'm 5'9 and weigh between 145 and 150. I sometimes hate it and think I need to get back down to 135 but lots of people tell me I look better now than I did when I was really thin (at 135 just getting over a break up). I think I could do with just getting 'healthy' as in exercising but I don't look overweight.

But I must say a 30 year old woman with curves looks a lot better than a 30 year old woman with the body of a 12 year old boy...cough keira knightly...cough. Just my opinion.

I wanna be just like you. I figure all I need is a lobotomy and some tights

I thought she looked great in Bridget Jones Diary, but I agree that she did look heavier in Edge of Reason and even her complexion looked more uneven in that one. Yeah, she didn't look put together in the sequel.

136 and 5'5 is definitely not overweight. She looked more like 160 lbs in the movie to me.

Why is she using pounds? Don't they use a differetnt sysytem in England?

I thought this movie was adorable--many parts reminded me of my experiences with men who were not quite what they wanted you to think they were, and with public speaking! Very cute movie! Nice to see Hugh Grant in a slightly different role; did he think of the incident w/the prostitute (in real like) when he was filming getting caught with the American woman, I wonder?

I am 5"5 and when I weighed 128lbs I looked embarrassingly obese, one can imagine that 136lbs for a 5"4 is serious matter. Also BMI will not provide a remote idea of what one's figure ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE. On the other hand, if you're a health-conscious person, finding out about your body fat percentage would be more helpful.
