How different is the world of Children of Men from our current coronavirus world?

I don't know where you live. I live in the New York City area, one of the worst locations for COVID-19, and the two worlds could not be more different.
a) Chaos? - Where? Everything is orderly. People are generally getting what they need (food, medicine, etc). People are not dying in the streets. There are no gun battles. No bombs going off.
b) Police controls? - Where? There are no roadblocks. No checkpoints. No roundups.
c) Isolated people? - Yes, to stop the spread of COVID. That was not a common practice in COM. I can only think of Michael Caine's character living isolated. Everyone else was going to work, waiting in line as the coffee shop, walking the streets.

This is not a good comparison.

Its different in that they have a real problem that there is no obvious solution to.

China's ahead of the West with the concentration camps. If Trump wins reelection, maybe he'll do the same to New York and California.

Here in the US, aside from masks and social distancing, the world doesn't seem that much different. But it makes one wonder how different things might look if Covid-19 was more like the Spanish Flu of 1918-1920. Now THAT was a scary beast. With worldwide death estimates ranging from 17-100 million (including millions of children)...and that was when the world population was only about 1.8 billion. If Covid was like the Spanish Flu, you likely would be seeing chaos, police controls, and lots more self-imposed isolation. Definitely would be closer to Children of Men.

The world wasn't really portrayed in detail in the movie and I have not read the book.

What little information we did get from the movie is that the British Government controls the narrative of what's going on outside, and that narrative is that the rest of the world has gone to shit, but it's obvious that this is a lie because the UK can't survive living in a bubble.

It stands to reason to me that places like North America and Asia Pacifica are probably doing the same thing as the UK and keeping refugees out but to different degrees of scale and probably lesser violence and some cases probably more. It depends on how autocratic the government and homogenous the culture is.

As for our current world, this is a weak analogy to use and people are easily making more babies during shutdown than Children of Men world could ever hope to imagine.

The world of "Children of Men" is entirely fictional. Our current corona virus world is only about 90 percent fictional. So they are a little bit different.
