Katherine Heigl Ruined Season 3!!

I love Roswell with a passion, and everytime i re-watch the series, it just bugs me to death how crappy season 3 was because of KH! who cared about Isabelle and her husband! who caresss!!! she looked 30 in the episodes, and i know its been said before but i just wanted to express my anger. Season 1 was the best season ever, but every time i watch end of the world i cry my eyes out. anyways, any of you out there still a bit angry when it comes to season 3?

reply

I agree, seriously I don't know what she did to piss off the wardrobe dept. but she looked like she was in her 40's. It's not that I minded the eps focusing on her but there were way too many of them, and all in a row? WTF!!!

reply

Not sure what the "in her 40's" thing means. She's super hot if that's what you mean...

Anyway I'm really surprised there's so much hate for the character. Never heard that before. Not sure why people think she wasn't a main character either. I think she was underused early on maybe, but not overused. I was never a huge fan of Jesse, but I'd have recast Max before recasting Isobel.

reply

I wouldn't say she ruined season three for me but that the storylines that were written for her ruined her character for me. Putting her ahead of Michael and Max by having her graduate early kind of wrote her out of being on their level and then having her suddenly fall in love with Jesse and get married didn't help things either. Her new look really aged her and it was just such a departure of the Isabel we were introduced with in season one that it turned fans away.

The Eraser room does two things: Cleans erasers and takes our innocence.

I don't think we can blame katherine heigl at all. I think Katherine is a fantastic actress & will always love Isabel!!

Roswell is my all time favourite show, but I acknowledge that S3 is not as good as it should be. I blame this on nothing else but that it was cancelled. They set up storylines that were meant to be explored, they got cancelled & therefore had to rush the ending. The ending was brillant. The end of the Tess storyline disappointing though.

I really like Jesse & love Adam Rodriguez but the main problem I had with this storyline is that as a Roswell fan, I had not got over Alex, & suddenly Isabel was married!! It felt disloyal & a big shock to suddenly see the turmoil of Alex, oh & she's married. This is not KH fault but the writers. I also would have liked to have seen Kyle & Isabel get together & did not understand the need to bring in a new character (however much I liked Jesse).

I also found S3 frustrating because so much time was wasted on pointless episodes like the bewitched rip off when the storyline should have been moving along, but again - thats no ones fault - they must have thought they would have longer to develop & show gets cancelled. They did what they could. Its definitely not KH fault.

My favourite character was always Maria & I was so disappointed to find her & Michael sidelined in S3, but thats not the actor/actress fault. I also don't like Maria herself in S3 as much as the other seasons which makes me sad because alot of her behaviour was written completely out of character & the fact that everything changed & then Michael/Maria was sidelined is only the responsibility of the writers not the cast. I wanted to see much more of them than anyone else but Liz & max were the central pairing & thats fine.

I still think it was a brillant show overall

The timeline of S3 is apparently - Jesse met Isabel in July, they were together four months & got married in November as then just after their wedding they had the christmas episodes. Thats TWO MONTHS after Alex. No wonder fans didn't warm to this, alien or not thats a ridiculously quick healing time & makes Isabel seem quite heartless.

I agree. But i also have to say that Isabel's relationships never got properly developed by the writers. She went from one guy to another and she had a thing for guys older than her since S2 (Grant, the guy at Las Vegas), Jesse wasn't the first one. Alex had always loved her but Isabel suddenly realized that she loved him too only after he died. For a whole year she ignored him and then all the sudden he was the love of her life and she was angry with the whole world because she lost her love. I didn't buy that and the cynic in me believes that it was forced and the writers just wanted to find a convenient pretext so that Isabel and Max could argue over her decision to leave roswell because you know her love died and she couldn't stand being there anymore. It was over the top.

Mind you Alex/Isabel were my second favorite couple in the show, they were cute and they had a lot of potential but i also think that her love for him is "overrated" and none of her relationships was well developed even though i prefer her with Alex.

wow, never thought about the timeline, that's crazy!
Isabel had some ok moments but definitely not worthy of a main role. It all just went horribly wrong for the last season, the writing was not good at all except for the season finale, which I actually thought was a pretty awesome way to end the show.
For me it'll always be S1 & S2 + season finale.

and yeah, her character in Grey's shares a lot of the same qualities which is pretty funny.

Sorta to explain why I could except the Jesse and Isabel relationship/marriage. Know of someone who had a "love of someone but really in the end was not in love with, and the person died, not quite as quick, was over a 3 month period, Unfound Cancer and when was nothing could be done. She met someone within days after, and were married a month later, and have been together now for 36 almost 37 years.

I enjoyed all of the seasons but I do think that there was too much of her in Season 3.

*You're the love of my life. Everyone else is gonna be second best. There'll never be another you.

i wouldnt blame katherine heigl for this. season 3 had new writers so they went in a different direction than what people would have hoped. plus the fact that there wasnt even going to be a season 3 at first. so when they went ahead and did season 3 they had to wrap up storylines quickly and they probably didnt have enough time to really make great episodes. i personally still really like season 3 although i wish the focus wasnt on isabel and jesse.

reply

Are you crazy? Majandra Delfino, or rather Maria ruined season three. Maria is so annoying in S3. She can't make up her mind, always complaining, can't sing that well, suffers from neurosis and did I mention annoying. Who cares about her singing "career". The show would have been better without her.

reply

As a huge fan of both Isabel and Maria, they were both really annoying and pain in the ass in s3.

s1/s2= awesome

s3= meh

Though Isabel was not one of fav characters, I did not hate her. I do agree she got way too much airtime in Season 3 but I don't blame her solely for the downfall of Season 3. It was more about the writing.

With that being said Season 3 lacked what made the first 2 season so great: The Group. Max & Liz were the heart of the show sure but for me what made the show so great is the gangs friendships. They all pretty much had them go off to do their own thing, it really wasn't an ensemble cast anymore. Kyle and Sheriff Valenti needed more airtime and there was no Alex. Season 3 didn't feel like the same show anymore.

S3 Seemed like a bunch of fillers lol.

Though there were a few good episodes in there (I really enjoyed the finale) I have to overall agree with the above comment. Season 1 was EPIC, Season 2 was Great. Season 3 was Boring

I liked and still do like Katherine Heigl it was the writing that ultimately ruined the show.

reply

I agree with you completely... season 3 was just too much and the priorities were lost along the way. I watched a few episodes and then fast tracked to the last two episodes because I watched the show for Max/Liz and Michael and Maria. The show could have lasted much longer had the writers stuck to the point and not put so much focus on Isabel.
