I love Roswell with a passion, and everytime i re-watch the series, it just bugs me to death how crappy season 3 was because of KH! who cared about Isabelle and her husband! who caresss!!! she looked 30 in the episodes, and i know its been said before but i just wanted to express my anger. Season 1 was the best season ever, but every time i watch end of the world i cry my eyes out. anyways, any of you out there still a bit angry when it comes to season 3?
Nope. I have a love/hate relationship with Heigl, but one thing I do notice is that no matter how her character is written/conceived in the beginning, they always seem to turn humorless, selfish, and judgmental. She can't even escape it in her rom-coms like 27 Dresses and The Ugly Truth.
First of all, I enjoyed season 3 because Liz & Max were together again.
I did not like so much focus on Isabel in season 3 because it sacrificed Michael-Maria relationship, which needed further development. Liz-Max relatinoship also needed more time- the time to heal. We did not see enough of the other couples because Isabel was the central character in so many scenes. The episode I hated the most was 'I married an alien'. Cute idea, but a total waste of one hour. I also disliked the episode with the proposal by Jesse- just another example of giving more screen time to Isabel.
This series was most enjoyable in season 1 because the priorities were clear. I wonder if Heigl pushed the producers/writers to make her the main character in season 3? I thought she looked very good, and I had no problem with her marrying Jesse, but there was too much Isabel and not enough Liz-Max and Michael-Maria.
HOwever, I had no problem with Jesse discovering who/what Isabel was. That episode and its aftermath were both well done.
Inspite of the Isabel-centeredness, I enjoyed season 3.
I heard that she threatened to leave the show if they didn't give her more screen time. And the show suffered for it, IMHO. I think that if S3 weren't so Isabel-centric, we may have gotten a 4th season.
She seems to think she's too good for all of her projects, since she basically did the same thing with Grey's Anatomy.
It's sad because the show had so much potential to be better.
I read in an interview that she hated being on the show. She thought it was too childish or something like that. They should have just recast Isabel like they do all the time in soaps. Just cover it up like she needed a new face because the FBI was after her or something... hahahaha.
I'm sure with her off the show it would have done much better.
Sooooo glad she is off Grey's. They totally should have killed of Izzy and kept George.

I agree. I do think Katherine is a talented actress, but her diva-ish behavior and her constant negative comments about her own projects overshadows her talent. The sudden bump of Isabel to a main character in the third season really screwed up the dynamic of the show. Max and Liz were the heart of the show, not Isabel. I can't recall ever hearing anyone say they watched the show for Isabel. She was a supporting was a supporting character, and she should have stayed a supporting character. It's a shame Katherine couldn't get past her own ego to accept the supporting role she AGREED to play.
Since Shiri, Katherine, and Majandra auditioned for all three roles, I'm thinking that when the show took off in popularity, Katherine regretted not being cast as Liz, hence her ego trip.
As for the show being "childish"--wow, what about her behavior?
I couldn't agree more. I loved watching Seasons 1 and 2 (well season 1 especially due to the Liz and Max relationship), and I really enjoyed the show revolving around liz and max (mostly) and maria and michael (they were hilarious). I really didn't give a crap about isabel, and as I'm watching Season 3 now I really do not understand at all why she was given so much screen time. I could not stand her story lines or her acting or her appearance (sorry to be shallow but oh well) and to be honest I really just resented her for taking away from the max and liz storyline and the comedy of maria and michael. goddamn it, if only we had had a season 4!
I didnt mind Katherine, and I dont think she ruined season 3. The crappy storyline did. For me Roswell was not just about Liz and Max, but about ALL of them. Sure the relationship between the 2 of them was great, but I did prefer to follow Maria, Michael, Isabel, Kyle, Alex etc. simply because it was way more interesting. I felt sorry for Isabel, not having anyone for a long time. I think overall Katherine did a great job :)

S2 was about All of them, well Alex and Kyle definitely needed more screen time. And Alex didn't deserve to die dammit. But Roswell was still cancelled in S2, and moved to UPN for S3. S3 couldn't make up for the damage done in S2, so that put the final nail in Roswell's coffin.

The story was about all of them, but Max and Liz were the heart of the show. They messed up the entire set up of the show in season 3. Katherine was promoted to one of the main characters which resulted in Shiri being demoted to a supporting character. That and the crappy storylines is why I hated season 3.

I believe there were crappy storylines in S2 also, and that's why it's last on my list. Thank goodness, Max and Liz can't be blamed for all of the crappiness that was S2, and Roswell was still cancelled.

I do think season 2 had a couple bad episodes, but overall I loved the second season. By season 3 I felt like the writers had both ran out of ideas and had forgotten why most viewers watched the show in the first place.
well it's been recorded that season 2 had the highest ratings, they just went a completely different route come season 3. either way you could tell everyone on the show was ready to move on from it.

S2 had high ratings, but it was still cancelled and moved to UPN for S3. S1's ratings were good and even with the threat of cancellation and the fans saving the show, it still stayed on the same network. I love S1 and S3 would be next for me. S2 is loved by many, but it's last on my list in the series.

i'll never understand, and it's nothing personal or to uffend you, but how anyone can actually like season 3 when the characters were drastically changed so much, the lines were so out of wack and rushed, for me anyway. it just seemed like a completely different show, not roswell.
I feel the same way about S2, Max and Liz who are/were my favorite characters were given lobotomies all in order for some storylines to flow. I'll never understand why the need to change the characters personalities to make a storyline come together, then try to backtrack after the damage was already done. With all the damage done from S2 and not even answered in S3, I still prefer S3 over S2.

My mom and I just finished watching the show for the first time and I really can't believe what I've read on this whole thread.
People liked Max and Liz the most? That's like liking Ross and Rachel the most except the latter couple had personality.
Sure after so many seasons I grew fairly fond of the two but I think that was mostly due to familiarity. I hated episodes that were only about them and I got very tired of their relationship. I hate to bring the acting into it but while they were both quite good by the end, I found them very shaky in the beginning.
I always liked the rest just fine.
Anyway I do remember thinking that there was an awful lot of Isabel in season 3 but I felt that was more the third alien getting her due after 2 seasons of nothing for her. Sure whatever maybe there was an ego trip but to me the show is about Max, Isabel and Michael. The boys got lots of screen time in the first two seasons and Isabel was always but never should have been a supporting character. I realize it's mostly from Liz's point of view but god...she's so boring and she ends all of her "ing" words with a "k" sound and it just drives me nuts...
I didn't like season 3 too much but it had nothing to do with Isabel. The characters all changed, Michael had one episode of reverting to his season 1 self with no repercussions, Max was duller than ever, Maria lost her chutzpah and Isabel lost her character. Liz devolved from the personality she grew in season 2 and became a hollow person again.
God I still can't believe there are people out there who only watched the show for Max and Liz...they look like brother and sister and act like robots :S
"Ah. Multiple exclamation points, the true sign of a deranged mind."
Sure did, it's called having one's own taste. I'm one of the people/fans that LOVED Max and Liz the most! I still do after let's see...almost 11 years.

I loved the episodes that were only about Max and Liz, and I never grew tired of their relationship, though I did get tired of all the unnecessary drama and angst, and the old tried and true soap opera tactics that they went through. I also liked the episodes that had Alex and Kyle in them, and wished for much more of their scenes. I found Jason and Shiri's acting believable and real, they weren't any worse than the rest of the cast in acting abilities to me.
I always liked the rest just fine.
Besides Max and Liz, I loved Alex and Kyle.
Anyway I do remember thinking that there was an awful lot of Isabel in season 3 but I felt that was more the third alien getting her due after 2 seasons of nothing for her.
It's too bad that a lot of people hated the Isabel season. Maybe if more fans liked her episodes the show would have went on much longer.
I realize it's mostly from Liz's point of view but god...she's so boring and she ends all of her "ing" words with a "k" sound and it just drives me nuts...
I didn't find Liz boring at all...well I wouldn't because she was my favorite female character. TWoP used to have a field day with Liz/Shiri's pronunciation of her "ing" words and the haters loved it. Shiri is now on her new show Life Unexpected and in one episode two characters talked about her pronunciation of her "ing" words and I LOVED it. Firstly, knowing that Shiri knew all about it since she read the script. Secondly, it was like a shout out to her Roswell days, and letting the haters and lovers know that she doesn't care WHAT people think about her.
Max was duller than ever
I loved Max, and never found him dull. But I could see how most haters love the rude and uncouth guys...well bad boys some like to say.
Maria lost her chutzpah
No she didn't. Maria was the same character from all seasons, it's just that the bitch came out full force in S3.
Isabel lost her character.
No she didn't. Isabel was doing exactly what she wanted to do like always, it's just that she was doing it as a boring housewife in S3.
Liz devolved from the personality she grew in season 2 and became a hollow person again.
Wow, many fans hated Liz's personality in S2 (well many fans hate Liz period), and you believe she became a hollow person. I don't know about the "again" part since I didn't find Liz hollow at all.
God I still can't believe there are people out there who only watched the show for Max and Liz...they look like brother and sister and act like robots
Believe it...well Max and Isabel were actually brother and sister and people shipped them together. Speaking of robots...do you think the Antarians wanted Max, Michael, Isabel, and Tess to be cloned robots of a past life?
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused.

that's perfect
here we go again with infamous K! it's one of those things that after a while become involuntarily comical into a ridiculous way. A fictional character may be boring for some but honestly people repeating the same phrases over and over again are more boring to me. Can't they find a better pretext? Come on there must be something more consistent (and original) to say in order to criticize her... people can do better than repeat like a robot things written by the other people. Also, I honestly think that if someone really gets upset/irritated/annoyed only for a futile thing like the sound of a letter then he/she has some problems. The experts say that only 5% of the population has a completely normal manner of speaking. It means that we all have, more or less, some speech disorders.
I was right about one thing: To get you into my life, to be around you, to love you.

True. And apparently there's nothing better for Liz haters even now.

I don't believe they can.

I know my speech has never been perfect, and I'm born in the US of A.

We had 2 full seasons of Max/Liz Michael/Maria I like Katherine. If you have to bash someone try bashing the people who wrote the script. I think if the show had widened its range a bit and tried to explore other people in the show ie. the Sheriff, Kyle NOT KILLING ALEX (sorry I loved Alex) it could have grown.
I'm like you, I though it was nice to see Isabel finally get her own storylines in Season 3, they might not have been the best but at least she had something.
Why can't you accept a difference of tastes? Just because you did not like Max & Liz (and IMO they definitely did NOT look like brother & sister!) why does it shock you that others did? Majority of the fans of this show loved the relationship between Max & Liz. It was central to the entire story, and in my opinion the chemistry between those characters made the show interesting and strong.
I have no problem with characters changing from season to season. We change all the time, and with life's experiences become different. I don't see why the characters should remain the same as in season 1. They have been through too much for that.
I liked season 1 the most, and season 3 was next. I did not like several episodes of season 2, but still overall the show was very good. I found that the heavy emphasis on Isabel in season 3 kept the series from showing how the relationship between Max & Liz and Michael- Maria developed further. Maria's character (and even the actress) suffered the most, for lack of screen time.
Isabel did mature quite a lot in season 3 and that was a positive, but a couple of episodes gave us an overdose of her, and it cost the central story sufficient time. 'I married an alien' is one of the most irritating episodes in the series.
