Why is it called "American Beauty"?

What do you think is the meaning of the title in the context of this movie, cheers.

reply

It is going to have more than one meaning, but one of them being that an “American Beauty” is the name of the type of rose seen on the poster and in the film.

I didn't know that. I always assumed it was a sarcastic comment on how beautiful life can be, and then we see the movie with all the stuff going on.

The American Beauty rose is considered one of the most beautiful but it also has the reputation of suffering from root rot and most do not live long because of it. The title is a description of the American ideals. All substance and no value. Materialistic leading to a hollow existence.

Because the dad proved anything is possible if you put your mind to it , like the so called American dream , when seeing his daugther's friend for the first time never in a million year could he have imagined that he would actually be able to sleep with her, and yet he could have.
