Did any guy tear up during this film?

I did.

I have to be honest. I had to wipe a tear at the wwii scene in the bar and the end scene when Lyle asked him if he drove the lawnmower all the way. And then they both realize everything is okay between them again.

Sex verstandig, neuk een appel !!

Yup. Twinkly lil' tears in the corner of my eye. Very manly ones, of course.

The first time I saw it with my dad, I didn't. The second time when I was alone, hard sobs as I tried to hold it back to hear what was being said. Richard was struggling so hard and the look on his face when he called for Lyle, (was he still alive?) after all the effort to get there and Lyle would never know, was he too late? The way he looked toward Lyle as he sat on his porch. when Lyle asked the question, and Alvin said, "Yes I did Lyle." The scene at the bar between the two WWII veterans. I expect the next time I watch it, it'll be pure hysteria, frankly I'm not sure how many more times I can watch. 'Course I'm at that time of life where instead of hotflashes, I'm emotionally labile.

I'm a woman but when I was in the theatre there were men who were in their 50's, 60's & perhaps a few in their 70's that had tears in their eyes at one point or another. Imagine a man, a total stranger, turning to you after viewing a film at the same time, seeing his glowing wet eyes & a smile on his face. A smile revealing the secret that only those of us in the the theatre that night experienced. It was an amazing, cathartic experience for those couple of dozen people who sat together that Thanksgiving night.
