What Did FedEx Owe Chuck For What They Did To Him?

We know FedEx gave Chuck a fancy, welcome-home party. We know he had the free time to drive to Texas. But what else did they give him? Did they offer him his old job back? If you were Chuck, would you be willing to work for FedEx again? Did they offer him a cash settlement of, say, half a million dollars? Chuck lost 4-years of his life, suffered bodily harm and psychological trauma, lost his fiancé to another man, and had his whole life turned upside-down. How much do you think they should pay Chuck for what he went through, on their behalf?

He was an executive, and I would guess that he would have received at least his salary for each year he was gone. 1995 that could have been 75-100k per year. Plus probably other compensation. I would bet he would be set for a good long time, if not for the rest of his life if he lived a relatively frugal lifestyle.

Not to mention the book deals and movie rights offers! In real life, I think he'd be ok for money.

If you go down in a plane ride, survive the crash, live four years on an island, I can assure you when you return you're never working another day in your life if you don't want to. He didn't own the plane, he wasn't flying nor responsible for maintenance of the plane. The company's lawyers would have worked out a settlement before he even considered getting a lawyer involved.

I was a little skeptic that four weeks after his rescue he would be flying again, but everything shown proved how mentally tough he was.

You could argue that with him being lost at sea, he was probably declared dead. The life insurance policy could have had to be paid to his fiancee (many companies provide life insurance policies for their executives.) It's usually equal to a year or two of salary.

He was injured during the course of performing his jobs, so he would have been eligible for workers comp.

My guess is it was a legal transfer so the company willingly gave it to her. Their mistake.

Hard to believe no one searched all the small islands in the vicinty where the plane went down?

Id say a hefty settlement would be easy to obtain!

there are thousands of uninhabited islands in the world. and the plane didn't go down where they thought it did.

I have to agree with that statement. After the plane crash, he drifted in the raft for only the rest of one night. By the following morning, he was on the shore of the island, which didn't give him much time to drift too far away from the site of the plane crash. I would guess if he drifted for 10 hours, he was probably no further than 50 miles from the crash.

But the plane was already off course. He estimated that the search area would be twice the size of Texas. Did they ever say they found the crash site?

The plane flew off course for an ENTIRE HOUR during a storm before it crashed. You have no idea where it started going down based on when it last pinged on the radar or when they last reported their course heading. Do you have any idea how far a plane can travel at 30,000 feet for ONE HOUR?

Do a little bit of basic calculus of air travel speeds + traveling across the pacific ocean x 60 minutes x 10 hours of drifting away from the crash site after spending an hour flying in the air off course.

Get back to me with your findings about all the possible directions and positions the plane could have landed in.

Real world circumstances and the experts in the field still can't come up with anything conclusive even with newer technology. It does happen.

they attempted to explain that by saying they were working in an entirely different search area based on the flight information....and the world is a big place, so...

What's hard to believe is that people still think like this a couple of years after the loss of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. That incident shows just what you're up against under even good conditions with the latest (at the time) in technology.

I always feel like he doesn't go back. Throughout the party he seems like he just doesn't want to be around these people anymore. Hes a completely different guy at this point. He could give two craps about FedEx.

So he actually died in the island? That the rescue was basically his mind going insane trying to cope with what happened?

Yep, the rescue and return to society was all purgatory. He had to settle things with Wilson in the afterlife before moving on.

Did Kelly mention that they suspected the cause of the crash was chemicals onboard that were mislabeled? If that were the case, then FedEx probably already paid large settlements to all the families. Its possible Kelly didn't get much from FedEx since she wasn't his wife yet, and might not have been named his beneficiary. None the less, I'm sure FedEx gave him whatever he wanted when he got back. I doubt he actually went back to work for them (I wouldn't) but I think I would expect a few Million dollars up front, my normal salary every year (regardless if I work) and full benefits.

FedEx should have paid him time and a half for working 24 hours around the clock for years -- he never checked out after checking in for that flight, so he was still on duty.
