Alex is really getting sick of James

...anyone else sensing that?

Probably sick of his monotone speaking voice and all the other weirdness.

reply

I didn't really sense it. Alex seems to like more flamboyant players because they make the show more interesting and it helps ratings. I don't find James as annoying as Ken Jennings, he was a bit too smug.

reply

No. And James seems relatively normal compared to many other contestants as far as weirdness. Nearly everyone on that accursed tournament about a month ago was far more eccentric than James.

reply

I like James. I think he is cool. I'm rooting for him.

reply

I felt I saw a genuinely humble spirit emanating from him when he talked about his deceased grandmother "looking down" at him while he was performing on the show.

reply

Me too for sure and the fact that he has a lot of friends indicates to me that he is a really great guy.

reply

I don't see how you can come to that conclusion. Often times people with "lots of friends" have no friends. Luckily James is married so hopefully he has at least one true friend.

reply

It's hard to tell unless he really likes someone. He's not really supposed to be partial to anyone in any way (but I do remember 15 years ago when he kissed up to Ken Jenning everyday).

reply

Probably sick of this monotone speaking voice and all the other weirdness.

I noticed Alex himself had a bit of a hoarse voice tonight. Definitely sounded off.

Other than that, no, I didn't get the sense that he is sick of or even annoyed with James. How could he, when James is doing a lot to boost ratings?

reply

I'm pretty sure Alex doesn't give af about ratings right now. Does he want to be forever linked to this guy as his final prodigy? I don't know.

reply

Alex must feel like King Henry II with Becket...who will rid me of this troublesome contestant?

reply

Ha. Great comment.

Presenting three charts explaining James Holzhauer's Jeopardy! domination

https://twitter.com/_cingraham/status/1123577320168513536

"Watching Holzhauer play is basically like watching a baseball team score 30 runs (the modern day record) in every single game," explains Washington Post data reporter Christopher Ingraham, who adds: "It’s not just the number of victories that’s drawn attention and criticism, it’s the sheer scale of them. Of the 10 largest single-game winnings, nine now belong to him."

James Holzhauer is a Jeopardy! menace, so why does he have so many fans?

Everyday you can tell just from the looks of the challengers that they are like sheep being led to slaughter. You can see a winner and very few of those who have opposed him have had the look of a winner.

There was one guy a couple weeks ago who almost beat him. If he had gotten his Daily Double question and wagered enough he would have won (he was the only one old enough to know about Jane Fonda exercise videos).

And it was an easy Daily Double (I say that because it was one that I knew).

reply

From what I heard he has an unconventional strategy and gets a lot of Daily Doubles early and just gathers up the dough. To be Captain Obvious, he also must be really smart in getting a lot of correct answers. I haven't watched any of these episodes, though. Have other interests at this time of night.

reply

Why are you here if you can't contribute to the conversation?

reply

I just did. I heard what his strategy was. Jump around what he thinks are the likely Daily Doubles and cash in. I like Jeopardy and Alex but I'm watching the NHL playoffs and working in the evening. Hope this doesn't cause you too much discomfort. If I start a thread I will make sure it's nothing you have anything to share about.

reply

I still miss Matt.

reply

Not at all - if anything, Alex seems to be rather amused by this winning streak.

And I mean, come on, no one in the history of the game has thought to play this way.

reply

Others have tried but failed. No one else has been as successful. I think he's spent years studying.

reply

I just think he has eidetic memory.

reply

Funny though how he didn't know about the Abraham Lincoln Brigade a few days ago. How can anyone who knows anything about the Spanish Civil War not know that?
