most emotionally haunting films

This strikes me as being one of the more haunting films I have seen in quite some time. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions besides the list provided below. I am sure there are many more, so recommendations are welcome. Cheers

1. Interiors
2. The Virgin Suicides
3. We Don't Live Here Anymore
4. Picnic at Hanging Rock
5. Lantana
6. Rebecca
7. Gates of Heaven

Keith.

It's only a low budget movie filmed in 2005 but it had me in tears and a feeling of emptiness at the end. It's basically about a teen who's terminally ill and his last goal in life is to ruin the popular, perfect girl. It's much more than some generic teen movie though, trust me.

I saw that film. So I didn't miss any subtlety, he genuinely betrayed her as his terminal illness was soon to take his life? There was nothing to suggest he did that to spare her of the sense of loss she may have felt if he died with her having developed feelings for him? It would seem what he did was more painful than that would've been.

Probably a few repeats, but these are films that have stuck with me for a long time:

(excluding The Virgin Suicides)
White Oleander
Cracks
A Single Man
Changeling
An American Crime
The Life Before Her Eyes
The Man Who Wasn't There

the problem with these kinds of posts is people either want to show how clever and cultured they are by suggesting the most obscure, underground, international film they can think of or want to post lists of they're favorite movies that may have had a sad scene or two in it. that said, i think the two most relevant are Picnic at Hanging Rock and, though not HAUNTING as such, but definately it evoked the strongest emotional response from me personally; Requiem for a Dream

and, just to add an obscure, international film and show how clever and cultured i am, try Lake Mungo (Australian, not the upcoming [or recently released] american remake)

Sybil

Deliverance

Schindler's List

Mean Creek

Walkabout

Don't you just love old threads?

I would suggest seeing LITTLE CHILDREN if you enjoyed this one, it kind of has a similar feel to it, and is just as emotionally haunting.
I don't mean to impose, but I am the Ocean.

There have been quite a few films that left a lasting, haunting impression on me even if I only saw them once
The following ones I agree with...

Requiem for a Dream
Black Swan
White Oleander
American Beauty
Atonement
Pans Labyrinth
Eyes Wide Shut
The Butterfly Effect
Heavenly Creatures

"The Horseman comes... and tonight he comes for you!" (Lady Van Tassel, Sleepy Hollow)
