5 movies - October Sky (1999) Discussion

If you want to see a great movie about the struggles of coal miners in West Virginia then watch Matewan. Also starring Chris Cooper as a union activist who tries to unite the coal miners against the coal operators and their gun toting thugs. Its based on a true story as well. Fantastic acting and compelling story. One of my favorites of all time.

This movie reminded me of "Wild America" about the Stouffer boys who went on to film wildlife. The themes of the father against their dreams at first but coming around, true story etc. Oh and the father is Randall Flagg LOL

Four Friends is an excellent movie about a guy growing up in East Chicago in the late Fifties and throughout the Sixties. His immigrant Dad wants him to work in the steel mills, but he wants something more. Check it out.

- Pursuit of happyness (struggle for achievement; father-son)
- A wonderful life (relationship with family and society)
- The wrestler (moving story with very strong father-daughter undercurrent)
- A beautiful mind (another struggle for achievement with a beautiful husband-wife angle. Unfortunately the wife in real life wasnt as devoted)

good movies who have same atmosphere with inspirational story are movie Sleepers with Brad Pitt and Robert de Niro. Almost same is Stand by Me about four kids in adventure and Perfect World with Kevin Costner, a story about relationship beetwen father and son, well almost, but very emotional and reminds me a little bit on October Sky. There are plenty sport drama's with inspiring story and emotional feel like We are Marshalls or John Q - drama with Denzel Washington about he taking a hostages in hospital, not the similar story but have that emotional family vibe.

"Life as a House;"

Kevin Kline is dying of cancer. When his estranged son comes home he pulls him into a project to build a house as therapy. Great father - son bonding film.

The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank.
