Scene that could be considered offensive.

Murtaugh expressing relief that his daughter got pregnant by a Black man, instead of a White one.

If a White character had said the same thing in reverse, he would be considered racist.

reply

Fried Lice!!! It's fried rice you prick.πŸ˜‚

reply

Best just to enjoy the film and not make anything of it.

reply

So? Murtaugh's remark was racist too, so what's your point?

reply

Oh for crying out loud. Can't people just watch a movie and enjoy it without finding something offensive? πŸ™„

reply

And yet no one was bothered by the ridiculous racist stereotypes in Lethal Weapon 2, namely the 'South African' villains, all played by either English or American actors with totally ridiculous and unconvincing accents...?

reply

Well, it would've been hard to find White South African actors to appear in a movie like this.

reply

no , no one was bothered.
If they did that today however , all the far right 'conservatives' would be screaming:
"MORE WOKE SHIT!!! the bad guys are white ! its not fair ... "

"also that black guy is only there becasue they have to fill a quota!
A white man couldve had that role if it wasnt for PC hollwood lefty commies,
Black people should not be on our TVs.."

..is what they would say today

reply

No, not anymore.
And you better tag along or... are you one of these bigoted racist Nazis too who can enjoy things in their respective context without the need to politicize it?

That being said, we should get the movie edited/censored like others.

It is for the good of peoplekind!

reply

I don't believe in censorship. I just don't see the humor in what Murtaugh said.

reply

Bottom line for me is, don't cut, censor or ban these movies and similar ones with racist language and attitudes.

They should simply put warnings before them, many TV channels do this. If you are offended, heed the warning and don't watch. Then you won't be outraged or offended.

Fundamentally, people of todays generation should realise that those were different times. Such things were (past tense) considered acceptable back then.

Therefore, you educate, you don't ban. It's wrong to remove all of this stuff and then pretend it never happened, in fact its dishonest.

You educate people as to how and why, you show how attitudes and mindsets were different back then. And crucially, we accept it was wrong in hindsight and we strive to be better and not offend people.

It should be perfectly acceptable for such movies and others to exist, as long as people know and understand the era in which they were made.

reply

Exactly! Well said! Idris Elba said the same thing and I wish more people would listen.

reply

Lol :)
