I don't believe in censorship. I just don't see the humor in what Murtaugh said.
shareBottom line for me is, don't cut, censor or ban these movies and similar ones with racist language and attitudes.
They should simply put warnings before them, many TV channels do this. If you are offended, heed the warning and don't watch. Then you won't be outraged or offended.
Fundamentally, people of todays generation should realise that those were different times. Such things were (past tense) considered acceptable back then.
Therefore, you educate, you don't ban. It's wrong to remove all of this stuff and then pretend it never happened, in fact its dishonest.
You educate people as to how and why, you show how attitudes and mindsets were different back then. And crucially, we accept it was wrong in hindsight and we strive to be better and not offend people.
It should be perfectly acceptable for such movies and others to exist, as long as people know and understand the era in which they were made.
